And it is green!

We all know about colours, that red means danger, yellow is a warning, and green means good to go. We learnt this about road signs but didn’t know that it would become more significant in relation to the health status of children.

Last month, we inducted the second cohort of the Egg a Child Campaign. Unlike the first cohort where we had 5 children, increased donation from individuals helped us to take on 10 new malnourished babies. In June, all ten babies were either in yellow or red, signifying malnourishment concerns.

Just a month later, we have just recorded our first green! This is faster than we anticipated, and it goes to show the power of eggs to support the nutrition and nourishment of children.

This is cheers to many more greens in the next four months!

Why does the project matter?

Because of the many children living with malnutrition.

Today marks the beginning of the second phase of this project, which we are implementing in collaboration with Teen Africa and Wrahp Nigeria.

We are grateful to all our funders who are keeping this project alive.

And we invite you to join us to Egg a Child, for tomorrow’s smiles!❤️

At the Stakeholders CSOs Training on Sodium Reduction & Front-of-Pack Labelling (FOPL), convened by Corporate Accountability & Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) in Lagos. We had revealing and thought provoking sessions on the need to advocate for the rights of vulnerable population.

We can achieve this through advocating for Healthy Food Policies. Nigeria needs to set mandatory Salt Target and provide FOPL so consumers can be informed.

“Unhealthy diets contribute to non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and impact on individual and national development,” says Dr Joseph Ekiyor.

The Executive Director, Mr Akinbode Oluwafemi, exposed the deceptive marketing of unhealthy foods in Nigeria . Speaking on Legal Grounds for Advancing FOPL Policy, Shade Oyelade Oni expanded on tbe disparities between what is presented and actual contents especially in Africa. Issues of content description written in foreign languages and enforcement challenges were discussed too.

CSOs were, therefore, challenged to arise while highlighting how an effective coalition should run by Zikora Ibah.

CS-SUNN Lagos Chapter members present contributed to a robust conversation on the way forward on the Sodium Reduction & FOPL advocacy and awareness creation.

*Food Justice is Now!*

*Step Down Session to Parents and Teachers of Bloomsville Schools on Sodium Reduction & Front-of-Pack Labelling ( FOPL).*

With the increasing cases of Non Communicable Diseases among Nigerians(NCDs), the linkage between NCDs and unhealthy diets has been established. It is expedient, therefore, we all arise in engaging the government for Healthy Food Policy and the citizens for sustainable lifestyle changes.

Research conducted by Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa(CAPPA) revealed that the Sodium content of most processed foods in Nigeria is alarming and not often displayed so consumers are aware.

HELWEI is filled with emotions as a new year begins. 2025 was an incredible one, especially as we sustained the Egg a Child campaign (Cohort 2), and executed the Kick Dirt, Hug Life! Green Action Week campaign.

We want to say a huge thank you to all the people who donated to our cause this year. There are improvements in the health of malnourished children in Alimosho LGA, Lagos State.

To our funders, we are grateful for the opportunity to impact our community and we look forward to more collaborations in this new year.
