CELEBRATING OUR TEACHERS THROUGH REFLECTION AND LEARNING
This World Teachers’ Day, we commemorated the day a little differently at Street to School Initiative. Our teachers came together to watch two powerful TED Talks: “The Power of a Teacher” and “Every Kid Needs a Champion” by Rita Pierson.
Both videos reminded us that teaching is much more than delivering lessons. It is about the lives we touch, the relationships we build and the belief we inspire in every child.
Three key lessons from “The Power of a Teacher”:
*A teacher’s influence goes beyond the classroom. What we say, do and model can shape a child’s future. Our impact are generational...
*Every child needs to be seen and understood. Teaching requires looking beyond behaviour and recognising the child behind it.
*Purpose matters. When teachers understand why their work matters, they bring greater commitment, compassion and intentionality to the classroom.
Three key lessons from “Every Kid Needs a Champion”:
*Relationships are at the heart of learning. Children learn better when they feel connected, valued and cared for.
*Every child needs someone who believes in them. A champion is an adult who refuses to give up on a child and challenges them to become their best.
*Teaching should bring joy and possibility. Children should feel safe to think, take risks, grow and discover what they are capable of.
For us at Street to School, these are not just beautiful ideas. They are a reminder of the responsibility we carry every day.
Every child counts. Every child can learn if given a chance, and learn well.
Happy World Teachers’ Day to our amazing teachers and educators everywhere.
