Many cases are dismissed as family matters, often backed by cultural norms and historical precedence.
We are now encouraging open dialogue and working to empower older persons to recognize and prevent abuse.

From June 15th to July 14th, Age Nigeria will promote the wearing of purple, the official colour of WEAAD, or orange, to show support for this cause. We will amplify this campaign on social media to engage younger generations and create stronger intergenerational connections.

Using social media to drive awareness, encourage youth involvement, and advocate for elder rights
Supporting family members of abused elders with emotional, legal, and social support
Age Nigeria will also intensify our advocacy for national policies and initiatives that will protect older people from abuse, violence, and neglect.

Together, let us go beyond ageing, and truly connect generations, in solidarity, in respect, and in action

Many cases of elder abuse remain unreported due to fear, shame, pride, or a general lack of awareness. Currently, our Elder Abuse and Recovery Service (EARS) has recorded over 20,000 reported cases via our dedicated elder abuse helplines. Unfortunately, our team continues to be overwhelmed by unresolved and complex cases, largely because Nigeria lacks clear elder justice laws.

Elder abuse is a widespread yet often hidden issue, affecting millions of older persons in Nigeria.
According to available statistics, Nigeria ranks as the number one country in the world for financial elder abuse. This is a disturbing indicator that much more needs to be done to confront the menace of elder abuse, violence, and neglect.

This is a period where we encourage older persons' advocates across communities and organisations in Nigeria to raise awareness about the rights of older persons, identify and recognize the major signs of elder abuse, and engage the public to take action in protecting the dignity, safety, and well-being of older people in Nigeria.
WEAAD is typically commemorated in all communities where Age Nigeria Foundation operates daycare centers for older persons and through our partner organisations,

Our Story

Age Nigeria Foundation is a non-profit organization with the basic aim of raising resources for the aged and provide relief for them through various intervention. We advocate with national state and local government to bring about policy that is beneficial to the elderly. We make the society to be aware of plight of the aged and promote better awareness of aging issues. We equally help the elderly become aware of their own right and privileges, so that they get their dues and are able to play an active role in the society.

Age Nigeria Foundation has assisted over 1,000,000 older people and family members in Nigeria mostly in the Southern part of Nigeria through our programme of community- based support by providing free medical services for the elderly to make them keep fit for life, our well being and health programme make them to have access to free eye care, free screening for diabetes and hypertension, free drugs, free consultation with the doctors on various health issues. Our Food Bank for the Elderly is helping them to fight resilience living.

We are creating a big voice for the old people to be appreciated and cared for in our society. The older people between the ages of 60 and above must be accorded their due respect with government programmes and policies.

Over 150,000 senior citizens benefited from our programmes recently and we witnessed a massive and impressive turn out of senior citizens in the two sister states of Lagos and Ogun State. Apart from making all the elderly to have access to our medical team and were given free drugs and gift items. Last April we held a summit to commemorate World Health Day with the theme DEPRESSION LET’S TALK in Lagos ,Ogun and Zamfara States.
