A SINCERE APOLOGY TO THE SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF IJESALAND AND THE ENTIRE OSUN EAST SENATORIAL DISTRICT
An Apology from Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi
To the distinguished sons and daughters of Ijesaland, and to the good people of the entire Osun East Senatorial District, both at home and in the diaspora:
I address you today with deep humility, sincere reflection, and a profound sense of responsibility regarding some of the statements I made during the campaign for the recently concluded Osun State Governorship Election.
Politics is, by its nature, a contest of ideas, convictions, programmes, and visions for the future. However, no political contest, regardless of how intense or passionate it may become, should ever be allowed to undermine the bonds of brotherhood, unity, dignity, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence that have bound our people together for generations.
For any hurt, offence, embarrassment, or disappointment caused by my words, I sincerely and unreservedly apologise.
I acknowledge that, in the heat and intensity of the political campaign, some of my utterances may have offended or hurt individuals, groups, communities, and people who hold different political views. I take responsibility for my words, and I deeply regret any statement that may have been perceived as an affront to the dignity, unity, peace, or collective interest of our people.
As a public servant and a representative of the people, I understand that my words carry considerable weight. Words can inspire and unite, but they can also hurt and divide. In moments of intense political engagement, those entrusted with public responsibilities must demonstrate restraint, wisdom, maturity, and respect for all. Looking back, I acknowledge that some of my expressions during the campaign did not meet the standard I should have upheld.
For this, I am truly sorry. I humbly ask for your forgiveness.
Ijesaland and the entire Osun East Senatorial District are greater than any individual, political party, candidate, or election. Our shared history, ancestry, culture, values, aspirations, and collective destiny bind us together in ways that political differences must never destroy.
The election has come and gone. The campaign is over. Political disagreements that arose during that period should not be allowed to become permanent divisions among brothers, sisters, friends, neighbours, and communities.
I therefore appeal to everyone who may have been offended by my statements to accept this apology in the spirit in which it is offeredโwith humility, sincerity, and a genuine desire for reconciliation and peace.
I equally appeal to my supporters, associates, and political allies to refrain from words or actions that could further inflame emotions or deepen divisions. No political victory is worth the price of hatred, and no political disagreement should ever be greater than the peace, unity, and progress of our people.
My commitment to the development, advancement, and wellbeing of our people remains unwavering. Whatever political differences may have emerged during the campaign, I remain deeply proud to be a son of Ijesaland and conscious of the responsibility that comes with serving the people of Osun East and contributing to the progress of our communities.
I believe that public service is ultimately about what we are able to contribute to our people and to the generations that will come after us. It is in this spirit that I reaffirm my commitment to initiatives and programmes that promote education, human capital development, economic empowerment, infrastructure, and sustainable development across our communities.
At this time, I do not wish to revisit, defend, or justify statements that may have caused pain or resentment. A sincere apology should not be accompanied by excuses. Where my words caused hurt, I simply ask for understanding and forgiveness.
To our traditional rulers, respected elders, religious leaders, community leaders, women, youths, professionals, political stakeholders, and every son and daughter of Ijesaland and the Osun East Senatorial District, I respectfully appeal to you to let peace, reconciliation, forgiveness, and brotherhood prevail.
Let us put the bitterness and disagreements of the campaign behind us and look towards the future with renewed hope and unity.
Let us remind ourselves and teach our children that political disagreement is not hatred; that supporting a different political party or candidate does not make anyone an enemy; and that our common identity, heritage, and destiny as Ijesa people are far greater and more enduring than any political contest.
I therefore offer my heartfelt, sincere, and unreserved apology to the entire Ijesa family and the good people of Osun East Senatorial District.
May Almighty God heal every wound, restore every strained relationship, strengthen the bonds of brotherhood among us, and continue to bless Ijesaland and the entire Osun East Senatorial District with enduring peace, unity, prosperity, and progress.
