One year ago today…

A flight that should have been routine became a tragedy that the aviation world will never forget.

Today, we remember them as people.

Gone, but never forgotten. AI171🕊️

That sideways landing you are seeing is not a mistake.

When wind hits an aircraft from the side, it creates a crosswind, one of the most challenging landing conditions. Pilots either “crab” into the wind or transition into a side slip just before touchdown to stay aligned with the runway.

You get the timing wrong, and it’s a go around.
Get it right and it looks a little effortless like this.

So tell us, did that look smooth or stressful? 😳😮‍💨✈️

Climb or descend?
In 2001, two aircraft came seconds from colliding mid-air over Japan. A Boeing 747 and a DC-10 were given conflicting instructions, the air traffic control said one thing, but their onboard collision system (TCAS) said another.
For a moment, both aircraft moved toward the same altitude leaving hundreds of lives hanging on a single decision.

Fortunately, the pilots’ last minute maneuvers prevented a disaster, making this one of aviation’s most chilling near misses.

Interesting Fact:

After this incident, Japan made TCAS compliance mandatory over ATC instructions in such conflicts to prevent similar near misses worldwide.

So… what would YOU do in that moment?
