Women shouldn’t have to learn about technology-facilitated abuse only after something has already happened.

They should know what to look out for. They should be able to recognise warning signs, ask questions, understand certain behaviours and feel more informed about the risks they may be navigating.

And when something does feel wrong, they should have somewhere they can turn to understand what’s happening, explore their options and find the right support.

That’s why WILAN created Nana.

Tomorrow, women in Nigeria will have a new tool to help them feel more informed, more equipped and better supported as they navigate technology-facilitated gender-based violence.

A little trip back to the ’80s with some of the women shaping Nigeria today.

That teal power suit would have commanded every room in the ’80s. Today, Abosede George-Ogan is the Founder and Executive Director of WILAN, leading its work to advance gender-balanced leadership across Africa.

Pink and poised, this look screams confidence. You can already see the senator in her. Today, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan represents Kogi Central in the Nigerian Senate.

The curls, the statement shoulders and the unmistakable presence. Today, Hon. Dr Abike Dabiri-Erewa, OON, serves as Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.

The gele, the glasses and the quiet authority. This look carries the elegance of an ’80s Yoruba society portrait. Today, Senator Dr Idiat Oluranti Adebule represents Lagos West in the Nigerian Senate. She previously served as Deputy Governor of Lagos State.

Online abuse and other forms of technology-facilitated gender-based violence are becoming an increasingly common part of women’s lives.

And the consequences can stay with women long after the message, comment or threat itself. It can affect how safe they feel, how freely they speak, how visible they are willing to be, and sometimes leave them unsure of what is happening or where to even begin.

For too many women, navigating these experiences has meant trying to figure things out alone.

Women In Leadership Advancement Network (WILAN) created Nana with women’s lived experiences at the centre. A private digital safety companion designed to help women recognise risks, understand what they may be experiencing, explore their options, access practical resources and connect to further support when they need it.
