A. God answers prayer, but we must learn how to truly communicate with Him.
A. Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. Everyone who asks will receive, those who seek will find, and the door will be opened to whoever knocks (Matthew 7:7, 8).
a. This is God’s will. When we seek, we are supposed to find, and when we knock, the door is supposed to be opened. When this does not happen, the problem is not with Him.
B. When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. They love to pray in public, so they may be seen by others. They already have their reward (Matthew 6:5).
a. Even hypocrites love to pray. They want to be seen.
b. True prayer is two-way communication with God. For prayer to be effective, He needs to speak back to us.
C. God is always talking, but we will not hear Him unless we tune in and screen out external static.
a. Feelings are the voice of our body, and they communicate to us if something is pleasant or painful. We are spirit beings that possess a soul—which is our mind, our will, and our emotions. Intellect is the voice of our soul, and it gives a voice to our mind, will, and emotions. Our conscience is the voice of our spirit, and it is impacted by what we see, hear, and say.
b. What we spend the greatest amount of time doing is what shapes our conscious thinking. This is why we must think of pure, good things (Philippians 4:8).
c. God wants to speak to us through our conscience, but if our conscience is cluttered with the things of the world, this “junk” keeps us from hearing Him.
B. God always communicates clearly and distinctively. He wants genuine conversations.
A. There are ways we can discern if the message we receive is from God or not.
a. If it is really from Him, it will go against all worldly reasoning and rationalization.
b. What we hear requires faith.
c. The message we get requires courage.
d. It lines up with His written Word.
e. It brings us peace.
