The Mirabel Centre is a safe, friendly and conducive place where one can get free help after going through the trauma of a r**e or sexual assault. The goal of the Mirabel Centre is “to provide holistic and quality services and support to survivors of sexual assault in a compassionate and caring manner, where each individual’s specific needs, and their rights to make choices on how to address those needs, are respected and met”. At the Mirabel Centre we support victims who have been Sexually Assaulted. Above all a person needs two things: to be listened to and to decide themselves to deal with the assault. The important thing is for the person to regain a sense of control over their life since the assault may have left them feeling powerless. In order to regain that sense of control, people need:

• To be believed
• To be listened to
• To feel safe after the assault
• A non-judgmental attitude
• Understanding of their trauma
• To be in control of what is happening
• Permission to talk about the attack at their own pace
• Information they may need
• Encouragement
• Validation of their experience and reactions to be supported

In 8 years of operation, the Mirabel Centre has provided direct free medical care and psychosocial support to over 6,500+ survivors of r**e and sexual assault (including men, women and children). The youngest survivor was a 3-month-old baby and the oldest, an 80-year- old woman. Itoro Eze-Anaba founded the Mirabel Centre when working on domestic violence issues as a lawyer. While campaigning for the Domestic Violence Bill, which she drafted, she discovered how little support r**e survivors were getting in Nigeria. Our mission is to continue to provide free professional care and support to survivors of r**e and sexual violence irrespective of when the incident happened. THE MIRABEL CENTRE

Dear parents and Guardians,

Happy resumption Monday. We reshare this post all the time because we know how important having these conversation is with your children.

Ask them how they are doing and if they’d like to share anything with you, if something happened to them. Children usually need only a little encouragement before they go off. You can’t say they don’t talk to you if you don’t ask.

Please talk to them about consent.
Speak to them about consent, why No means No and why other people’s autonomy and decisions must be respected.
What parts of their bodies are no-go areas? What are body secrets? What should they immediately tell you about? How should they relate with other children, especially children who are older?

What about their school? How is their relationship with their peers and teachers? Is anyone’s action or behaviour making them uncomfortable?
What mechanism has your child’s school put in place for reporting if abuse occurs?

Please remember that if you don’t teach your children, someone else will and it may not be in the way that you choose. Don’t assume anything. Please ASK. Let us continue to equip our children with the tools they need to stay safe and navigate uncomfortable situations.

At Mirabel Centre, survivor care does not end with recovery (through the provision of mental health and psychosocial support & medical care) it also prioritises opportunity.

In 2023, through our skills empowerment programme, vulnerable persons including survivors and migrants were trained in tailoring, catering, and hairdressing, giving them practical, income-generating skills and a path to financial independence.

81 vulnerable persons were trained through the programme and have gone on to establish businesses and become employers of labour.

What starts as a survivor walking through our doors for support evolves to someone walking out with a trade, a skill, and the means to rebuild life on their own terms.

Because sometimes, opening a door is more than providing support, it is creating the opportunity to thrive.

At Mirabel Centre, we believe every survivor deserves not only the chance to heal, but the opportunity to build a secure and independent future.

Over 1 in 4 women have experienced sexual violence since the age of 15.

69% of sexual assault occurs in the home.

This is why it is of utmost importance that we make our homes safe for our children/loved ones. You can do this by checking in with your children and staying alert to any changes in their behaviour or demeanour.

You can also speak out about harmful practices, jokes, comments or attitudes that normalise gender based violence and lastly, share helpful resources and support organisations that provide these resources.

CALL FOR CONSULTANT – MIRABEL CENTRE SURVIVOR EXPERIENCE EVALUATION 2026

Mirabel Centre is seeking an experienced consultant or consultancy team to undertake its 2026 Survivor Experience Evaluation.

The evaluation will place survivors’ voices and experiences at the centre, while also exploring the experiences and wellbeing of staff and service providers involved in survivor-centred care, including issues around secondary/vicarious trauma, coping and organisational support.

We are looking for a consultant/consultancy team with:

• At least 10 years’ experience in evaluation, applied research and evidence generation.
• Demonstrated expertise in GBV, sexual violence response and/or survivor-centred programming.
• Experience conducting ethical research/evaluations involving survivors and/or vulnerable populations.
• Strong experience in mixed-methods research and evaluation.
• Strong qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills.
• Demonstrated experience producing high-quality evaluation reports, research publications and knowledge products.
• Excellent writing, communication, facilitation and presentation skills.
• Ability to maintain independence and objectivity throughout the evaluation.

When we use the , we understand that justice mean different things for different people. For one survivor, it can mean getting their story heard and beginning their healing journey while for another, it may mean their attacker going to prison.

As advocates and supporters, it is our duty to respect and support survivors through whatever action they decide to take.
