The Mirabel Centre is a safe, friendly and conducive place where one can get free help after going through the trauma of a r**e or s*xual assault. The goal of the Mirabel Centre is “to provide holistic and quality services and support to survivors of s*xual assault in a compassionate and caring manner, where each individual’s specific needs, and their rights to make choices on how to address those

needs, are respected and met”. At the Mirabel Centre we support victims who have been Sexually Assaulted. Above all a person needs two things: to be listened to and to decide themselves to deal with the assault. The important thing is for the person to regain a sense of control over their life since the assault may have left them feeling powerless. In order to regain that sense of control, people need:

• To be believed
• To be listened to
• To feel safe after the assault
• A non-judgmental attitude
• Understanding of their trauma
• To be in control of what is happening
• Permission to talk about the attack at their own pace
• Information they may need
• Encouragement
• Validation of their experience and reactions to be supported

In 8 years of operation, the Mirabel Centre has provided direct free medical care and psychosocial support to over 6,500+ survivors of r**e and s*xual assault (including men, women and children). The youngest survivor was a 3-month-old baby and the oldest, an 80-year- old woman. Itoro Eze-Anaba founded the Mirabel Centre when working on domestic violence issues as a lawyer. While campaigning for the Domestic Violence Bill, which she drafted, she discovered how little support r**e survivors were getting in Nigeria. Our mission is to continue to provide free professional care and support to survivors of r**e and s*xual violence irrespective of when the incident happened. THE MIRABEL CENTRE

Recent conversations on social media about s*xual assault of teenagers and minors in the church environment reminds us that abuse occurs in places where we less expect it.

Many “spiritual leaders” initiate s*xual conversations with children and young adults under the guise of spiritual guidance and that is inappropriate and should not be allowed or normalised.

As parents, it is a must that we teach our children about boundaries, consent and safety. We must empower them to be bold to speak up when they feel uncomfortable about certain conversations and behaviors. And we must reassure them that we have created a safe space where they will be believed and protected.

According to a 2023 meta-analysis done by the Journal of Adolescent Health, the average age of first exposure to po*******hy was 11 years old. And every year, that number gets lower. The importance of age-appropriate conversations with kids cannot be over emphasised.

This video shows how the creator would speak to a 3 year old but same approach can be used for older pre-pubescent children.

So this holiday, talk to your children about s*x, about po*******hy, about grooming and about s*xual abuse. Not to “spoil” them but the equip and protect them.

Catcalling: this is the act of shouting or whistling in a public place in an insulting, threatening, or unwanted s*xually suggestive way. It is a widespread form of public street harassment.

Catcalling isn’t a compliment. It’s a reminder that some men think our bodies are public property and our comfort is optional. Silence isn’t consent to be spoken to. Walking away isn’t rudeness. It’s self-preservation. no one owes a stranger a smile, a response, or their safety.

Gaslighting. Shame. Unfair questioning. Victim blaming.

This campaign by flips victim-blaming on its head, placing the excuses survivors hear every day into a setting where the absurdity is impossible to ignore. If you wouldn’t accept this at dinner, then why should a survivors of s*xual assault be expected to accept victim blaming?

Over 80% of s*xual assault cases go unreported because of the stigma and victim blaming survivors are subjected to. We need to do better as a society.

On this day 13 years ago, Mirabel Centre opened its doors in an uncharted territory, establishing the first s*xual assault referral centre in Nigeria and third in West Africa. The goal was simple: provide free and comprehensive medical, psychosocial, forensic, and legal support to survivors of s*xual violence, regardless of age, gender, or background.

13 years later and over 10,000 survivors seen, we have seen the adverse effects of r**e and s*xual assault on individuals and the society at large. From little babies to old people, male and female, every statistic is a human cost: disrupted childhoods, trauma carried into adulthood, lost opportunities, and communities grappling with cycles of harm.

As we marks this milestone, we remains committed to our core mission: ensuring that every survivor who seeks help is met with compassion, professional care, and the opportunity to heal, while working tirelessly toward a future where such services are no longer needed.

We are deeply disturbed by allegations emerging from students of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Osogbo campus, regarding an incident that occurred on Monday involving individuals alleged to be personnel of the Nigerian Army.

According to accounts shared by students, male students were subjected to physical assault and harassment, while some female students were forced to strip and subjected to s*xual harassment and assault. These allegations are extremely serious and represent grave violations of human rights and personal dignity.

We stand with the students of UNIOSUN and condemn this terrible incident. We call on the management of UNIOSUN, the Osun State Government, and the Nigerian Army to urgently commence investigation into these allegations and ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice.

We also call for appropriate support and protection to be provided to affected students. Students deserve to live and learn in environments that are safe, secure, and free from violence and abuse.
