The Mirabel Centre is a safe, friendly and conducive place where one can get free help after going through the trauma of a r**e or sexual assault. The goal of the Mirabel Centre is “to provide holistic and quality services and support to survivors of sexual assault in a compassionate and caring manner, where each individual’s specific needs, and their rights to make choices on how to address those

needs, are respected and met”. At the Mirabel Centre we support victims who have been Sexually Assaulted. Above all a person needs two things: to be listened to and to decide themselves to deal with the assault. The important thing is for the person to regain a sense of control over their life since the assault may have left them feeling powerless. In order to regain that sense of control, people need:

• To be believed
• To be listened to
• To feel safe after the assault
• A non-judgmental attitude
• Understanding of their trauma
• To be in control of what is happening
• Permission to talk about the attack at their own pace
• Information they may need
• Encouragement
• Validation of their experience and reactions to be supported

In 8 years of operation, the Mirabel Centre has provided direct free medical care and psychosocial support to over 6,500+ survivors of r**e and sexual assault (including men, women and children). The youngest survivor was a 3-month-old baby and the oldest, an 80-year- old woman. Itoro Eze-Anaba founded the Mirabel Centre when working on domestic violence issues as a lawyer. While campaigning for the Domestic Violence Bill, which she drafted, she discovered how little support r**e survivors were getting in Nigeria. Our mission is to continue to provide free professional care and support to survivors of r**e and sexual violence irrespective of when the incident happened. THE MIRABEL CENTRE

R**e culture does not start with violence. It starts with jokes, victim blaming and the quiet acceptance of behaviour we have been told is “normal.” Every layer of this pyramid is connected. When we challenge the bottom, we protect people from the top.

NB: You can walk into our centre and get the necessary medical and psychosocial care you need, and then we will assist you in making a report to the authorities.

Justice for survivors does not happen by accident. It is built through deliberate partnerships, honest conversations and consistent follow-through🧡.

This week, our Founder Ms. Itoro Eze-Anaba met with ACP Oluwatoyin Kazeem and the Lagos State Police Gender Unit to strengthen the bridge between medical care and legal justice for SGBV survivors in Lagos.

We discussed everything from case tracking technology to officer wellbeing. Because a system that protects survivors also has to sustain the people serving them. At the centre of every policy conversation, every meeting and every proposal is a survivor who deserves better than a broken system.

Still on the 10,000 survivors milestone, this is a reminder of why our work continues to matter.

Every number represents a person who chose to speak up, seek help, and begin a journey toward healing and justice.

At Mirabel Centre, we remain committed to providing free medical care, psychosocial support, and advocacy for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.

To every survivor who has walked through our doors: we see you, we hear you, and we stand with you.

Thank you to our amazing ambassador for this message 🧡
