PROPHET SAMUEL PRAYED FOR JUDGEMENT AGAINST THE ENEMIES OF ISRAEL!!!
......... continued from last week
These forty years of punishment led to the birth of Samson, who later saved Israel from the wicked grip of the Philistines.
This trend continued to the time of Samuel. He judged Israel last before the emergence of kings in the land.
It is clear from the fore goings that sin ensued the punishment from God. And He used the Philistines to inflict pain on His chosen ones. God’s pains on His children are meant to draw them back to Himself.
Have you suffered such from the lord? Maybe it is God’s way of calling you back.
So the people of Israel now acknowledging their sin, pleaded with Samuel to intercede in their behalf. But there are conditions for obtaining mercy from God:
And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines. 1Samuel 7:3
True repentance must be of the heart. It is a heartfelt commitment to be sorry and a determination not to fall short of God’s expectations. It also involves an outward demonstration of this commitment by separating from the cause or object of the offense.
Any child of God that falls into sin must remember this and practice same in order to obtain mercy from Him.
The people of Israel did as Samuel had said by putting away the objects of sin, returned to Him and served God alone:
Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only. 1Samuel 7:4
Repentance should precede intercession.
When Israel turned away from serving other gods to follow the only true God, they were ready for Samuel’s intercession in their behalf:
And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the LORD. 1Samuel 7:5
The stage was now set for God to intervene in behalf of His people.
While the people were making supplication before the Lord, the Philistines gathered together to attack Israel:
And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines. 1Samuel 7:7
Then Samuel prayed for judgment against the enemies of God’s people.
He followed it with an unusual sacrifice, which brought about instant victory for Israel:
And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a burnt offering wholly unto the LORD: and Samuel cried unto the LORD for Israel; and the LORD heard him. 1Samuel 7:9
Beloved, it is a terrible thing for your enemies when you cry unto the Lord. Do not lose your peace, you only need to run away from sin, and those that hate you will have themselves to blame.
The Philistines were on a war path to destroy Israel but they were about to encounter a devastating defeat.
PRAYER
Abba, Father, please help me and deliver me, and my family. Amen 🙏
