FROM VULNERABILITY TO VICTORY
Rasheeda’s Journey of Hope, Resilience and Transformation.
Rasheeda’s story is a powerful testament to the difference that timely support, compassion, and investment in vulnerable girls can make.
At just 13 years old, Rasheeda was encountered in a highly vulnerable situation. She had lost her parents and was living without the family support and protection that every child deserves. Faced with difficult circumstances, she became involved in s*x work and subsequently became pregnant.
Her situation placed her at significant risk and highlighted the urgent need for maternal healthcare, protection, psychosocial support, and an opportunity to return to education.
Recognizing Rasheeda’s vulnerability, Royal Women Health and Rights Initiative (RWHRI) intervened through its Maternal Health Project. With the financial support of Global Health Promise (GHP), RWHRI was able to provide Rasheeda with the necessary support during her pregnancy and after childbirth. The intervention ensured that she could access appropriate maternal health services and receive the care and assistance needed during this critical period of her life.
However, RWHRI recognized that supporting Rasheeda’s health alone would not be enough. As a young girl who had been forced out of school by her circumstances, education was identified as an important pathway towards rebuilding her future.
Following childbirth, Rasheeda was supported to return to school. In 2024, she was successfully enrolled back into formal education.Returning to school was not simply about continuing her education; it represented a second chance for a young girl whose circumstances had placed her future at risk. Despite the challenges she had experienced, Rasheeda showed determination and resilience. She remained committed to her studies and continued to move forward.
The Transformation
Today, Rasheeda has successfully graduated from Junior Secondary School.
Her achievement represents a remarkable transformation—from a 13-year-old orphan who was pregnant, involved in s*x work, and out of school, to a young girl who has returned to education and successfully completed her education.
