📚❤️ HELP US BUILD A READING CULTURE, ONE BOOK AT A TIME ❤️📚

Our recent Affordable and Inclusive Education Index research revealed a concerning reality:

📌 Over 77% of low-cost schools in Lagos State do not have libraries.
📌 More than 45% of teachers surveyed identified poor reading ability as a major challenge among their pupils.

These findings reinforce what many educators already know: children cannot become confident learners without access to books.

In response, the Call to Love Initiative is launching the pilot phase of our Literacy Drive Initiative to improve access to reading materials for pupils in low-cost schools and nurture a lifelong love for reading.

We are calling for donations of:

📖 Storybooks
📚 Textbooks
🎨 Activity Books
✨ New or gently used children's books

Every donated book has the potential to open a child's mind, strengthen reading skills, and create new possibilities for the future.

📩 To donate, send us a DM, we will arrange a convenient pick-up or dispatch.

Together, we can help more children discover the power of reading.

Over 45% of teachers in low-cost schools say many pupils struggle with reading.
— Affordable & Inclusive Education Index by Call To Love Initiative

Even more alarming, according to UNICEF, 75% of children aged 7–14 in Nigeria cannot read a simple sentence or solve a basic math problem.

This is more than a statistic.
It is a national emergency.

Behind these numbers are children whose confidence, opportunities, and futures are being affected every single day.

At Call To Love Initiative, we believe the solution starts with understanding the problem better — directly from the classrooms and communities where these challenges exist.

That is why we are launching a literacy-focused research project across schools in Lagos, and we are calling for passionate volunteers to join us as:

🔎 Interviewers
👀 Observers
📝 Research Support Volunteers

As a volunteer, you will:
✅ Visit schools in Lagos (minimum of 3 visits)
✅ Observe learning environments
✅ Interview participants for research and documentation
✅ Contribute to shaping practical solutions that can improve literacy outcomes

If you care about education, children, equity, research, or social impact — this is your opportunity to be part of meaningful change.

We are also calling on:
📚 Educators
🏫 School owners
🤝 NGOs & development partners
🏛 Policymakers
📺 Media organizations
💡 Corporate sponsors & CSR teams

to collaborate with us as we work to move the needle on literacy in Nigeria.

Because every child deserves the dignity of being able to read, learn, and thrive.

It is hard to say “Happy Children’s Day” today knowing that for many children and families the day is marked not with joy, but with fear.

It is heartbreaking that children who simply showed up at school in pursuit of their basic human right to education are being abducted and subjected to violence they should never have to experience.

Every child deserves to learn in safety. Every classroom should be a place of hope, not danger. Until that is our reality, celebration feels incomplete.

Still on the journey… “How Many More Sundays Are Out There?” ✨ (Cont’d)

The journey started with encouraging colleagues to give back and taking time off work to support others.

Then in 2010, we took children from orphanage homes on their first experiential trip to Ibadan. In 2011, we spent time with street children, trying to help two of them leave the streets by supporting their education and giving them hope for a better future.

But sadly, they returned to the streets.

At that point, what would you do?
Give up?

No.

A decision was made: “I may not be able to solve everything, but I will never stop trying — even if it’s one child at a time.” 💛

This is a reminder to everyone out there: do not allow disappointing moments to kill your vision. Not every effort will produce immediate results, but every act of love, kindness, and sacrifice plants a seed.

Keep showing up.
Keep trying.
Keep loving.

Because one life changed is still a life changed. 🌱✨

Meet Blessing Kalu – One of Our Incredible Call to Love Alumni! 🌟✨

From being a participant at the Call to Love Summer Camp to becoming a volunteer, mentor, and supporter, Blessing’s journey is truly inspiring 💛

Through the skills she gained at camp, she discovered her passion for sewing and has continued to use her talent to impact others. In 2024, she returned to teach our children how to make beautiful hair bonnets, inspiring creativity and entrepreneurship. She also taught the 2025 campers how to sew Ankara shorts using just a needle and thread — proving that determination and skill can create something amazing. 🧵✂️

Beyond teaching, Blessing has generously supported the Summer Camp through donations on two occasions, showing her unwavering commitment to giving back and uplifting the next generation.

We are so proud of you, Blessing! Your story is a beautiful reminder that every seed of love planted can grow into a life of impact 🌱💛
