In the year 2022, Sickle Cell Advocacy & Mgt Initiative partnered with a sister organisation to educate Doctors and Nurses about the need for proper Pain Management in sickle cell disorder.

I had the privilege of serving as a panel speaker alongside industry leaders, where I shared my experiences on pain management and emphasized the importance of ensuring that every patient receives proper care when in pain.

For warriors, blood transfusion can serve as a vital tool in managing pain.

Proper hydration also plays a crucial role in reducing pain episodes.

Additionally, the timely use of pain medications, when administered and alternated appropriately during admission, greatly improves overall pain management outcomes.

Here are a few points

Improves quality of life: reduces suffering, allowing individuals to engage in daily activities and education/work.

Prevents complications: uncontrolled pain can worsen stress, increase sickling, and trigger further crises.

Reduces long hospital admissions – effective pain management gives room for Better outcomes and decreases long hospitalizations and long pain hours.

Supports mental health: chronic pain can sometimes get you into depression and anxiety; good and proper pain management improves emotional wellbeing.

Protects organs: repeated painful crises without proper management can lead to organ damage over time.

Enhances sleep and recovery: pain control improves rest, which helps in faster healing and crisis recovery especially during hospital admission.

Promotes adherence to treatment: warriors are more likely to follow medical advice when pain is controlled.

Improves long-term outcomes: consistent pain management helps people live healthier, more productive lives.
