Nurturing the Future, One Breastfeed at a Time.
Every year from 1–7 August, the world observes World Breastfeeding Week to raise awareness about the life-saving benefits of breastfeeding and the importance of creating supportive environments for mothers and babies.
Breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure a child’s healthy growth and development. It provides complete nutrition, strengthens a baby’s immune system, reduces the risk of infections, and promotes healthy brain development. For mothers, breastfeeding supports recovery after childbirth, lowers the risk of certain cancers, and strengthens the unique emotional bond between mother and child.

Nurturing the Future, One Breastfeed at a Time
Every year from 1–7 August, the world observes World Breastfeeding Week to raise awareness about the life-saving benefits of breastfeeding and the importance of creating supportive environments for mothers and babies.

Breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure a child's healthy growth and development. It provides complete nutrition, strengthens a baby's immune system, reduces the risk of infections, and promotes healthy brain development. For mothers, breastfeeding supports recovery after childbirth, lowers the risk of certain cancers, and strengthens the unique emotional bond between mother and child.

Despite these benefits, many women continue to face barriers such as inadequate maternity protection, workplace discrimination, limited access to skilled breastfeeding support, social stigma, and misinformation. Every mother deserves the right to breastfeed in an environment that is safe, respectful, and supportive.

At Women Advance Nigeria, we believe that protecting, promoting, and supporting breastfeeding is a shared responsibility. Families, employers, healthcare providers, communities, and policymakers all have a vital role in ensuring that every mother has the support she needs to give her child the healthiest possible start in life.

This World Breastfeeding Week, let us recommit ourselves to:
* Support exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life.
* Advocate for family-friendly and breastfeeding-friendly workplaces.
* Encourage fathers and family members to actively support breastfeeding mothers.
* Promote access to accurate breastfeeding education and skilled healthcare services.
* Champion policies that protect maternal and child health.

Today reminded me why I started this journey. ❤️

Through Women Advance Initiative, we visited OKE AFA Junior Secondary School, Isolo, Lagos, where we reached over 300 young girls through our One Girl, One Pad 2026 outreach.

Behind every sanitary pad distributed today is a girl fighting silently for dignity, confidence, education, and safety. Many adolescent girls still struggle with access to menstrual hygiene products, and this continues to affect their self-esteem, school attendance, and overall wellbeing.

For me, this mission has always been bigger than outreach programs. It is about advancing the rights, health, leadership, and future of adolescent girls and young women. It is about creating safe spaces where girls are educated, empowered, and protected.

Seeing the smiles, conversations, and hope in these young girls today reminded me that impact begins at the grassroots. And we will continue to show up for them. 🤍

Thank you to everyone supporting this vision in one way or another.

Every year on May 28th, the world marks Menstrual Hygiene Day — a reminder that millions of young girls still struggle with access to sanitary products, menstrual education, and dignity.

Sadly, many teenage girls still miss school or resort to using unsafe materials because they cannot afford proper sanitary pads.

At Women Advance Initiative, we believe no girl should feel ashamed, neglected, or limited because of her period.

That is why on May 28th, we will once again be reaching out to teenage girls between the ages of 13–19 years through our annual “One Girl, One Pad” Outreach Program.

Our outreach will include:
💗 Distribution of sanitary pads
💗 Menstrual hygiene education
💗 Confidence-building conversations
💗 Breaking stigma and restoring dignity

This movement is about more than pads.
It is about protecting confidence, promoting health, and helping girls stay in school.

Join us as we continue to reach, educate, and empower young girls in our communities.

Together, we can make a difference — one girl at a time.

One Girl. One Pad. One Lesson. One Future. 💕
