Anti-GBV OUTREACH TO SANGGO SENIOR AND JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL (INCLUSIVE), AGEGE, LAGOS
*******************************
As part of campaign to create awareness on gender-based violence especially for women and children, we had a memorable outreach to the Sanggo Secondary and Primary School (Inclusive), Agege, Lagos. The school constitute of students with disabilities (hearing impaired, visually impaired, physically challenged, developmental challenged and other special needs) as well as regular students. It is an ideal inclusive learning enviroment.
The outreach was targeted specially in reaching girls with disabilities considering that they face evwn higher levels of vulnerability. Led by our founder, Betty Abah and other staff members, we interacted happily with the children and had discussions on reporting potential abuse cases, who to report to etc. Thete was also a discussion on Female Ge***al Mutilation, its criminalisation by the laws of the land as a harmful cultural practice and why and how potential cases can be reported to authority figures or law enforcement. Gifts and campaign were given out to the students and the staff present. Sign interpreters including Ms Eunice Ogunweide aka The Talking Finger Teacher, Mrs. Morufa Shoyemi and Emmanuel Kehinde Joseph (a former student of the school) were at hand to help with sign interpretation.
After the session with the students, the CEE-HOPE's team visited the principals of both Junior and Senior schools, Mrs. Folasade Ominike and Mrs. Elizabeth Balogun respectively. Also present was a representative of the Education Office, Mrs.
We look forward to further engagements with women and girls with disabilities for a more inclusive and safer society.
Happy New Week! πΉ
