This article examines the striking preference for traditional analogue workflows among Nigerian dental professionals, as revealed by a recent opinion survey in which 31 out of 42 respondents reported relying solely on conventional laboratory methods. With minimal adoption of digital or hybrid workflows, the findings reflect broader challenges in curriculum design, access to technology, and professional development within Nigeria’s dental education and practice landscape. Drawing on current literature, the report explores the implications of this technological lag for clinical outcomes, workforce readiness, and global competitiveness—and proposes actionable strategies to foster a more digitally integrated future for dental care in resource-constrained settings.

Abstract This report examines the results of an opinion survey conducted among 1022 dental professionals in Nigeria, with only 42 respondents participating. The survey sought to determine the preferred workflow methodologies employed in dental laboratories — analogue, CAD/CAM, digital, and hybrid.

Despite global advancements in digital dentistry—including CAD/CAM milling, 3D metal printing, and alternative veneering techniques—many Nigerian dental technologists remain rooted in conventional fabrication methods. A recent opinion poll capturing the preferences of 47 respondents from an audience of 1,022 offers a revealing glimpse into this technological landscape, highlighting a pronounced reliance on the traditional wax-up and casting technique while exposing the minimal pe*******on of emerging digital and additive manufacturing approaches. This analysis situates these findings within Nigeria’s infrastructure. Click the link
