Have you seen this?

Stringfoot happens when birds get caught up in hair extensions or stings that tighten around their feet and cut off blood supply. Eventually this leads to necrosis and the loss of that limb.

You can prevent this by cutting strings and hair extensions the next time you dispose them or securing your trash bags well to prevent birds from getting tangled in them while foraging for food or nest making materials.

This small change could help save a little guys feet💛

What if our cities were better connected? What if they were designed for people and not just cars? What if walking was made to be a pleasant experience and an opportunity to connect with ourselves and the world around us? What if transportation was also about accessibility for all?

Do you see walking as a valid type of transportation?

On Tuesday, 1 September, women leaders from Oworoshoki, Bariga, Anifowoshe and Brazilian Quarters came together for the first day of the Women’s Leadership Network (WLN) Community Waste Project workshop.

Together, we reflected on the realities of waste in our communities, from blocked drains and indiscriminate dumping to the possibilities that waste can create when it is treated as a resource.

The day was an opportunity to share experiences, learn from existing waste-to-value initiatives, and connect community needs with stakeholders, resources and potential partnerships. By the end of the day, each community had begun mapping out practical next steps, with new collaborations taking shape along the way.

A special thank you to our project coordinator Ajenifuja Opeyemi, Deji Akinpelu of RethinkingCities and Heinrich Boell Foundation Abuja for making this collaboration possible 💛

Day 2 WLN Waste Workshop!

We carried the conversations from Day 1 into the field with our women leaders from Oworoshoki, Bariga, Anifowoshe and Brazilian Quarters.

The visits offered an opportunity to see waste-to-value processes up close, learn from initiatives already working in Lagos, and consider what these approaches could look like within the communities themselves.

We are grateful to the Ajegunle Ikorodu community, the WLN project coordinator, Ajenifuja Opeyemi , Street • Digital Archive waste company, Deji Akinpelu of RethinkingCities and Heinrich Boell Foundation Abuja for making this collaboration possible💛
