Lymphoma is a type of cancer that starts in the lymphatic system, which is part of your immune system. The lymphatic system includes lymph nodes (glands), spleen, thymus, bone marrow, and lymph fluid. Its job is to help the body fight infections.
What happens in lymphoma?
In lymphoma, certain white blood cells called lymphocytes (B cells or T cells) grow abnormally and multiply out of control. These abnormal cells can collect in lymph nodes or other organs.
Main types
There are two main kinds of lymphoma:
Hodgkin lymphoma
Non-Hodgkin lymphoma
They are different in how they behave and how theyโre treated.
