2026 has been a year of change for Makoko as the community undergoes demolition and restructuring. While this has affected daily life, we believe it is being done for the wider good.

Khan Educational Foundation began its work in Makoko/Iwaya in 2018 with a small Christmas outreach that grew into a mission to give children purpose and access to education. Today, many of our students are in secondary schools, thanks to the support of our donors.

Although our school buildings remain standing, the changes in the community have disrupted our operations, with some spaces now serving as temporary shelters for displaced families.

We are grateful for the concern and support shown by our community and partners. We remain hopeful and committed to our mission and will continue to share updates.
