Dear Sister Guides,
Today, we join millions of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts across continents in celebrating a movement that unites us in sisterhood, service and strength. World Thinking Day is more than a date on the calendar, it is a powerful reminder that we belong to something greater than ourselves.
As members of the global family of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), we stand alongside over ten million girls and young women in more than 150 countries. Today, we think of one another. We celebrate our shared values and recommit ourselves to building a better world.
World Thinking Day was inspired by the vision of our founders who believed in the limitless potential of girls. They understood that when you empower a girl, you empower a nation. Their dream lives on today in every Nigerian Girl Guide who raises her hand to make a promise and strives daily to keep it.
This year’s theme: “Our Friendship.” is especially meaningful as we celebrate 100 years of World Thinking Day, a century of unity, service, leadership and global sisterhood. For 100 years, girls and young women across continents, cultures and communities have been connected by a shared promise and a shared purpose.
Friendship is at the very heart of the Guiding Movement.
Friendship teaches us understanding.
Friendship teaches us respect.
Friendship teaches us courage.
Friendship builds peace.
In the Nigerian Girl Guides Association, we see friendship come alive every day in the way our girls support one another, in the way our leaders mentor with patience and love and in the way our communities come together to serve. Our sisterhood remains strong and united but, “Our Friendship” goes beyond our borders. We are united by our Promise and Law. We are united by shared values of leadership, integrity, service and kindness.
To our dear Girl Guides:
Your friendships today are shaping the leaders you will become tomorrow. The trust you build, the kindness you show and the support you give one another are building a stronger Nigeria and a better world.
Let us use this World Thinking Day to:
• Celebrate our friendships.
• Strengthen our bonds.
• Reach out to someone new.
• And continue to build bridges of unity wherever we go.
Happy World Thinking Day 2026.
Happy 100 years of global friendship.
Thank you, and may God bless us All.
Yours in Guiding,
Deaconess Rhoda Olufunmilola Thomas
Chief Commissioner
Nigerian Girl Guides Association.
