November is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month in the UK, which is a powerful reminder that strength can be vulnerability. Opening up about how we feel isn’t a weakness, it’s real courage.

This year, we’re inspired by the idea of Closing the Empathy Gap in men’s health; showing up, listening, and caring in ways that matter more than ever.

Let’s break the stigma together. Check in on the men in your life. Ask, listen, and simply be there.

You are not alone.

Building Healthier Communities, One Conversation at a Time 🌍 💬✨

This year, our Founder - Dr. Fiona Igwe attended the World Health Summit in Berlin, a global gathering of changemakers working to reimagine health systems and equity worldwide.

For us, being there wasn’t just about joining the discussion, it was about ensuring that community-led voices are heard at every level of decision-making. Too often, those most affected by health inequities are the least represented in the rooms where change happens.

Our biggest takeaway? Collaboration across borders and disciplines is not optional, it’s essential. Health equity begins when local action meets global vision, and every conversation becomes a step towards lasting impact.

At Fionita’s Project, we remain deeply committed to driving inclusive, evidence-based, and community-powered health initiatives that place people, not systems, at the centre of care.

🚨 Every Second Counts 🚨

A tragic accident at Ikota, Lagos reminded us why trained community first aiders save lives.

Thanks to the quick response of Fionita’s Project first aiders, one precious life was saved, even though, heartbreakingly, another was lost. 💔

In a city where 15,000+ road accidents happen each year, having trained first aiders nearby can mean the difference between life and death.

Our founder, Dr. Fiona Igwe, attended the Black Pharma × Diabetes Africa event where conversations highlighted the urgent need for greater cultural competence, equity, and representation in healthcare.

The discussions explored:

✅ Addressing stigma and silence around long-term conditions in Black communities

✅ The importance of culturally appropriate language and communication

✅ Building trust and tackling historical barriers to participation in research

✅ Increasing representation of Black patients and researchers in clinical trials

At Fionita’s Project, we remain committed to addressing health inequalities and ensuring communities often left out of the conversation are better represented in research, care, and awareness campaigns.

🌍 A True Story That Continues to Inspire Us…

Meet Angela — a devoted schoolteacher, single mother of two, and one of the many unsung heroes in her community. During the COVID-19 lockdown, her school stopped paying salaries. With no income, no food, and no help, Angela faced a terrifying reality: she could no longer feed her children.

Seven years earlier, her husband left for a visit to another African country and never returned. Since then, Angela has singlehandedly raised her two children on a modest teacher’s income. But when the pandemic hit, everything crumbled. She became depressed, overwhelmed, and deeply hopeless. One day, in despair, she decided to take her own life.

💔 But hope found her before that could happen.

A local community leader—alerted by Fionita’s Project—told her about our Provisions Pack Project, an initiative targeting single mothers in crisis. She attended the distribution event, received enough food to support her family for 3 months, and broke down in tears. She shared that she was on her way to end her life, but this intervention saved her — and her children.

Her words still echo in our hearts:
👉 “What we have received now will go a long way and help to feed my kids and myself. I really appreciate this. If things like this happen often, people will be happy.”

Angela’s story is just one of many.
It’s why we continue.
It’s why we won’t stop.

🙏🏽 Help us reach more women like Angela.

💬 Tell us where we should go next — your community, your city, your country.

Today is World Sickle Cell Day! 🌍🩸
Under the 2025 theme “Global Action, Local Impact: Empowering Communities for Effective Self-Advocacy,” we’re joining voices around the world to raise awareness, support life-changing research, and uplift those living with sickle cell disease.

Every action counts; from global policy to local support. Let’s stand in solidarity and empower communities to advocate for the care and change they deserve.

This serves as a great reminder, to please GIVE BLOOD if you are able to. There are so many people whose lives will be saved from you giving blood.
