Founded in 1957 by a dedicated group of Nigerian and non-Nigerian women in Lagos.

IWS has the following aims:

- To foster and promote international understanding among all people.
- To work for the advancement of women and children in Nigeria.
- To help and provide cultural exchanges for women of all races in the area of home-making, children, social welfare, health, home finance and education.
- To discuss problems affecting the various communities in Nigeria.
- To endeavor to establish relations with similar organizations in Nigeria and other countries.
- To aid worthwhile welfare and charitable projects.
- To encourage and develop the common interest in women.

A Day of Impact, Hope & Empowerment 💙

On Thursday, 17th September, the Widows Trust Fund (WTF) — one of the core pillars of the International Women’s Society — gathered at our Lekki Skills Acquisition Centre to celebrate and empower widows in our community. 🤍

Guided by a deep commitment to self-reliance, dignity, and sustainable economic empowerment, IWS WTF donated essential livelihood items to selected beneficiaries — including sewing machines, gas burners, ovens, coolers, generators, and sanitary towels — to help strengthen their livelihoods and improve their economic wellbeing. 🧵✨

Since 1998, the Widows Trust Fund has supported over 2,500 widows — and days like this are exactly why. It was a truly fulfilling day of impact, hope, and empowerment. 🌱

Here’s to lifting one another up, always. 💙

IWS Scholarship Programme | 🎙 Back On Air! 📻

Our second radio interview is here! On 19 August, Ms Tita Young took to the mic to spotlight our Adopt-A-Girl scholarship initiative. 💙

The mission? Get more girls back in school this new term. 📚

And this initiative carries real weight behind it. Founded in 1957 — three years before Nigeria’s own independence — IWS has spent nearly seven decades turning purpose into institutions: a Skills Acquisition Centre that has trained 3,500 students, and a Widows Trust Fund that has supported over 2,500 widows. Our scholarship programme itself dates back to 2004, so Adopt-A-Girl stands on two decades of proven scholarship administration — not a first attempt, but a legacy in motion. 🌟

Service Beyond Self: From Grassroots to the Global Stage 🌍

On Tuesday, 21st July, IWS gathered at Alliance Française de Lagos Alliance Française, Ikoyi, for a truly inspiring General Meeting exploring the many dimensions of public service — from grassroots advocacy and regional policy to global diplomacy. 💙

We were honoured to be joined by a remarkable panel:

• Mrs. Aderele Adesina, Former Ogun State Commissioner for Economic Budget and Planning
• Mrs. Bisi Omojare, representing the Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture
• Mrs. Adaorie Osademey Udechukwu, Senior Gender and Economic Inclusion Advisor, IFC Africa
..alongside our President, Ify Oji Ms. Ifemena Oji, who guided a rich and thought-provoking conversation. 🌟

Together, they showed us how women are driving meaningful change — strengthening institutions, influencing policy, and transforming communities at every level. ✨

On July 28th, our students at the IWS Skills Acquisition Centre sat their second project assessment exam — a proud milestone on their journey to mastering new trades and building brighter futures. 💪🏾

Focus, determination, and dedication filled the room as each learner put pen to paper. 📚✨ Every exam is a step closer to economic independence and self-reliance — and that’s what empowerment looks like. 💙

So proud of how far they’ve come. Keep rising! 🌟

IWS Scholarship Programme | Since 1957, the International Women’s Society Nigeria has championed initiatives that uplift women and girls across the country. Education remains one of the most powerful levers for breaking the cycle of poverty and expanding opportunity — and through our Adopt-a-Girl Scholarship Initiative, we’re inviting individuals and organisations to sponsor a girl child’s education, from nursery through university.

Every contribution, whether ₦150,000 for primary school or ₦300,000 for university, directly shapes a young woman’s future and, by extension, her community. | Casting our minds back to February and the 30th Anniversary of Small World — a milestone celebration to remember. 🌍✨

Guided by this year’s theme, “Pearls of Time,” IWS took centre stage to showcase the global reach and enduring beauty of Nigerian music. 🎶

Under the leadership of our then Vice President, Ms. Ifemena Oji, the IWS Small World team came together to raise funds toward a powerful cause — equipping our Innovation Hub with a renewable energy source and the infrastructure to power upcoming accelerator programmes. 💡🌱
