STATEMENT ON FALSE INFORMATION CIRCULATING ON SOCIAL MEDIA

The World Scout Bureau – Africa Support Centre notes with concern the false and misleading posts being circulated through unofficial social media channels claiming to represent our National Scout Organization in Nigeria.

The national leadership of The Scout Association of Nigeria has confirmed to us that it no longer manages these channels and bears no connection to, or responsibility for, the content shared through them.

We categorically reject as false the disinformation circulated by these channels concerning the WSB Africa Regional Director, Dr. Frederic Tutu K**a K**a — including the claim that he has passed away. Dr. Frederic is alive, in good health, in office, and continues to discharge his duties in service to National Scout Organizations across the Africa Scout Region, together with the entire WSB Africa team.

We encourage the Scouting community to exercise caution when engaging with inflammatory or controversial posts on social media, particularly those originating from unofficial pages and groups. As Scouts, we welcome a diversity of views and perspectives, but we remain committed to addressing differences through dialogue, democratic processes, and respectful communication. Our Digitalise youth initiative is one of many examples of the meaningful work underway in this area across the Africa Region.

World Scouting remains committed in supporting The Scout Association of Nigeria and all National Scout Organizations across the African continent in strengthening their impact and upholding our shared values of integrity, respect, and unity.

The Scout Association of Nigeria wishes to categorically state that the information currently circulating on social media concerning the alleged passing of Brother Frederic K**a-K**a is false, misleading, and did not originate from any official national platform of the Association.

Our attention was drawn to a screenshot being circulated online, which falsely claims to have been posted from the official page of The Scout Association of Nigeria. We hereby debunk and dissociate the Association from the said publication.

Members of the public, Scouts, and partners are advised to disregard the fake post and rely only on verified information released through our official communication channels.

We strongly discourage the spread of unverified reports capable of causing panic, confusion, or emotional distress within the Scouting family.
