A' IBOM DEPUTY GOVERNOR CHARGES WOMEN ON SELF - DEVELOPMENT, SUPPORT FOR THE STATE GOVERNMENT.
Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator (Dr.) Akon Eyakenyi has urged Akwa Ibom women to develop themselves in order to take full advantage of the socio-economic opportunities made available for them by the administration of Pastor Umo Eno.
She made the call Saturday, while playing host to officials of Oron Union Women's Wing (OUWW), Uyo Branch in Government House, Uyo.
According to her, Akwa Ibom women must consciously build and upgrade their capacities in order to grow economically, taking advantage of emerging opportunities made possible by the state government to support their homes meaningfully.
She noted that the inclusive leadership style of the Governor was designed to help women and give all segments of the State a sense of belonging.
"His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno is intentional about inclusive leadership. At the centre of that policy is gender equity.
"The Governor recognizes the crucial role of women in the development of the State through their respective families. That is why most of his programmes are designed to help women and by extension, families."
Senator Eyakenyi also took time to enlighten the women on the efforts of the state government in the areas of economic advancement and infrastructural development across the State, while urging them to support the government to actualize its plans for the State.
She assured them that the Uyo - Nsit Atai - Okobo - Oron Road and other projects initiated by the state government in Oron Federal Constituency and other parts of the State will be completed on schedule and new ones started before the expiration of the first term of the Governor.
Speaking on behalf of the women, the President, Oron Union Women's Wing, Uyo Branch, Mrs Nkoyo Ibia said they were in Government House to congratulate the Governor and his Deputy on their victory at the polls and confirmation by the Supreme Court, describing the victory as well deserved.
She lauded the Governor's approach to governance and achievements in the last one year, noting that the women will continue to support both the Governor and his administration to do more for the State.
The meeting was witnessed by the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Grace Jim, PhD and others.
