Unesco YOD Represented on the Global Stage!

We are proud to celebrate the participation of YOD UNESCO Ambassador Emmanuel Ejiogu at the 48th Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, held in Busan, Republic of Korea, from 19–29 July 2026.

The session marked another significant milestone in global efforts to protect and preserve the world's cultural and natural heritage.

Some of the major outcomes included:

1. The inscription of 25 new World Heritage Sites.
2. Historic first-ever World Heritage inscriptions for Comoros, São Tomé and Príncipe, and South Sudan.
3. A review of the conservation status of 147 existing World Heritage Sites, reinforcing UNESCO's commitment to safeguarding our shared heritage.

At YOD, we believe that young people belong where global conversations are shaping the future.

Amb. Emmanuel Ejiogu's representation at this prestigious gathering reflects our commitment to raising young leaders who contribute meaningfully to sustainable development, cultural preservation, and global citizenship.

🌍✨ What a beautiful celebration of culture, unity, and youth!
On May 21st, the Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria (KCCN) in collaboration with Youth Orientation for Development (YOD A UNESCO NGO) hosted the 2026 UNESCO World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue & Development, themed "Embrace the journey, shape our future."

The event was a vibrant tapestry of cultures from colorful traditional attire representing Nigeria's diverse ethnic groups, to powerful performances by young students, a thought-provoking panel discussion, and an inspiring cultural contest presentation. The energy in the room was electric! ⚡🥁🎶

This event also marked a special convergence with the Kim Koo 150th Anniversary, celebrating the legacy of a man who believed deeply in the power of culture to shape nations.
To every young person who showed up, performed, and engaged - you ARE the future. 💫

🌊 NOMMI 2026 - We showed up. We showed out. And we showed the world what African youth are made of! 🔬💪

On May 16th, 2026, something powerful happened at Pan-Atlantic University, Abuja Hall. The National Ocean Microplastics Monitoring Initiative (NOMMI) brought together young scientists, changemakers, students, and ocean advocates all united by one mission: to fight for Africa's oceans.

From the lecture halls to the beach, this wasn't just an event. It was a movement.

🎤 We were honoured to have Emmanuel Ejiogu, President of YOD UNESCO, speak to us reminding every young person in that room that we don't just inherit the future. We BUILD it.

🧪 We learned. We asked the hard questions. We got our hands dirty — literally — putting on gloves and hitting the shoreline to collect microplastic samples firsthand.

🏖️ We walked the beach, felt the sand, saw the plastic with our own eyes. No textbook can replace that.

👦🏾👧🏾 From secondary school students getting their first taste of citizen science, to university scholars presenting cutting-edge research every voice mattered. Every pair of hands counted.

Theme: Youth, Science and the Future of Africa's Ocean 🌍

This is what it looks like when young Africans take their place at the table not as observers, but as leaders, researchers, and ocean defenders.

The ocean called. We answered. 🌊

And this is just the beginning.

Meet the voice speaking for Africa's oceans — and its youth.

We are proud to announce Emmanuel Ejiogu, President of YOD UNESCO, as a Guest Speaker at the National Ocean Microplastics Monitoring Initiative (NOMMI)!

Emmanuel is a globally engaged youth development leader whose work has shaped education, sustainability, and civic engagement across Africa and beyond. Through the Youth Organization for Development (YOD), he has built bridges between young people, governments, and international institutions giving youth a seat at the table where it matters most.

This is someone who believes young people don't just inherit the future. they build it.

Our oceans are in crisis. Microplastics are one of the biggest threats to marine life and the communities that depend on it. That's why young people across Africa are stepping up.

Together with RE-CYCLEME SOLUTIONS, The Living Green Club (PAU), and FEDROK AG we're launching a youth-powered movement to monitor, research, and protect Africa's oceans through science and action.
