Sussan’s Unique Oasis Foundation (SUOF) was honored to participate in the National Validation and Dissemination of Findings for the groundbreaking research on “The Role and Impact of Nigerian Women with Disabilities in Agriculture,” organized by the Advocacy for Women with Disabilities Initiative (AWWDI) with support from the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).

This research marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward disability-inclusive development and food security.

Agriculture is a major driver of livelihoods in Nigeria, yet women and girls with disabilities remain largely excluded from agricultural policies, climate conversations, access to land, financing opportunities, extension services, and decision-making spaces.

For too long, the contributions, challenges, and realities of women with disabilities in agriculture have remained undocumented and invisible.

This research changes that narrative.

The findings highlighted critical barriers including inaccessible agricultural systems, socio-cultural discrimination, institutional exclusion, limited access to resources, and the urgent need for disability-inclusive agricultural policies and financing.

At SUOF, we believe that inclusion must extend beyond conversations into systems, policies, budgeting, innovation, and implementation. Women with disabilities are not passive recipients of development; they are farmers, entrepreneurs, contributors to food security, climate actors, and agents of change.

We commend Awwdi Nigeria , Mrs. Patience Ogolo Dickson , Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research , the Australian High Commission, and all stakeholders who contributed to this historic initiative for intentionally centering women with disabilities in agricultural research and national development conversations.

This report is not merely research documentation.
It is evidence.
It is advocacy.
It is a roadmap for action.

SUOF remains committed to advancing inclusive development where women and girls with disabilities are visible, represented, and empowered across all sectors.

At Sussan’s Unique Oasis Foundation (SUOF), we believe culture should be a tool for protection, not silence.

1 in 3 women experience Gender-Based Violence, yet women and girls with disabilities remain even more vulnerable due to stigma, dependence, exclusion, and barriers to accessing justice and support services.

Yesterday, our Executive Director, Ihuoma Sussan Kelechi , joined Citizens Radio Abuja through the “Our Culture, Our Protection” initiative organized by the of Wives of Traditional Rulers in the FCT with support from the MacArthur Foundation to speak on the urgent need to address Gender-Based Violence against Women with Disabilities.

Traditional rulers and community leaders have a critical role to play in shaping safer communities, challenging harmful norms, and ensuring that women with disabilities are protected, heard, and included.

Ending violence requires collective action and intentional inclusion. No woman or girl should be left behind because of disability.

Happy International Workers’ Day.

At Sussan's Unique Oasis Foundation SUOF, we celebrate all workers but today, we especially honour persons with disabilities who continue to show up in workplaces, markets, classrooms, hospitals, offices, and homes, often in environments that are not fully accessible or inclusive.

You work. You persist. You adapt in spaces that don’t always provide reasonable accommodation. And yet, you keep going with strength, skill, and determination.

To every worker with a disability, your labour matters, your voice matters, and your right to inclusion matters. Work should not come with barriers; it should come with dignity and equal opportunity.

Today is a reminder that inclusion at work is not optional, it is necessary.
Happy International Workers’ Day.
Tag a worker with a disability and let them know they are seen, valued and appreciated.

From 31st March – 2nd April, Sussan’s Unique Oasis Foundation (SUOF) was represented at a regional symposium in Abuja focused on “Rule of Law, Human Security, Accountability, and Gender Access to Justice in the ECOWAS Region.”

Convened by German Missions in Nigeria , European Union in Nigeria , Ecowas - Cedeao and partners, and declared open by the Ministry of Interior, the engagement brought together key stakeholders across West Africa.

At SUOF, this conversation is not abstract, it reflects the lived realities of the communities we serve.
For many women, especially women with disabilities, access to justice is still limited by:

Structural barriers

Social stigma

Limited inclusion in decision-making spaces

We believe that human security must be inclusive ensuring dignity, protection, and equal access for all, regardless of ability or status.

This symposium reinforced a critical truth:
Justice systems must be intentionally designed to include everyone.

Our Call to Action:
We urge policymakers, institutions, and community leaders to move beyond conversations and commit to inclusive, accessible, and accountable systems that leave no one behind.

At SUOF, we remain committed to amplifying voices, driving inclusion, and building a society where justice is not a privilege but a right for all.

Strengthening Voices. Building Alliances. Driving Inclusion.

On March 26, 2026, Sussan’s Unique Oasis Foundation (SUOF) participated in a One-Day Mentorship and Advocacy Alignment Session held at the LCCI, Lagos, bringing together policy influencers and Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) with disabilities.

The session focused on strengthening mentorship relationships and aligning advocacy efforts to advance inclusive Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) policies and services.

A key highlight was the emphasis on transformational mentorship, positioning AGYW with disabilities not as beneficiaries, but as active partners in advocacy.
Through interactive sessions, participants explored the power of effective communication, empathy, and mutual respect in driving meaningful change.

The convening also created a safe and inclusive space for AGYW with disabilities across diverse clusters, including hearing, visual, physical disabilities, and albinism to present their advocacy priorities and engage directly with policy influencers.

Discussions reinforced the importance of:

Inclusive and respectful language
Accessible communication tools and platforms
Patience, clarity, and intentional collaboration
Building sustainable mentor-mentee relationships for long-term impact

Most importantly, the session laid the foundation for coordinated advocacy action, ensuring that the voices and needs of AGYW with disabilities are not only heard but reflected in policies and decision-making spaces.

At SUOF, we remain committed to fostering inclusive partnerships and amplifying the leadership of women and girls with disabilities.

This Easter, we are reminded that hope can rise even from the most difficult places.
It is a season that speaks of sacrifice, renewal, and the power of love to transform lives.

At SUOF, this message is deeply personal. Every day, we witness the resilience of persons with disabilities who continue to rise above barriers, challenge exclusion and demand a more inclusive society.

Easter calls us to reflect:
Are we building a world where everyone belongs?
Are we extending compassion, dignity, and opportunity to those at the margins?

As we celebrate, let us recommit to creating spaces where no one is left behind, where women, girls, and all persons with disabilities can thrive, be heard, and live with dignity.

Hope is alive. Inclusion is possible. Change
