On World Su***de Prevention Day, we are reminded that su***de prevention is not only about responding at the point of crisis. It is also about what happens before that moment: listening without judgement, taking distress seriously, making support accessible, challenging stigma and creating communities where people can speak about emotional pain without fear or shame.

At the Global Mental Health Fellowship, we believe su***de prevention requires more than awareness. It requires people equipped to recognise distress, systems that make help easier to reach, and communities willing to have difficult conversations with compassion.
