11 people have started. 1.95 kg of plastic has been avoided. 🌍

And we are only getting started.

Our latest Plafera Community Impact Report tells a simple story:

👥 11 participants
♻️ 1.95 kg plastic avoided
🌱 3.99 kg CO₂e saved
📅 8 weeks of recorded action

But there is another number we want you to notice:

1.928 kg of that plastic was avoided by simply REFUSING it.

No recycling required.
No clean-up required.
No waste to manage.

The best plastic waste is often the plastic we never create.

This is what makes Plafera different.

We don't just tell people to “save the environment.”

We give people a place to learn, take action, track their contribution and see how individual choices add up to collective impact.

Today, there are 11 people in the report.

Will you help us make the next report bigger?

🌱 Take an action.
📊 Let it be measured.
🤝 Add it to the movement.

What if the plastic we use tomorrow could help deal with the plastic we threw away yesterday?

An 18-year-old student in Ireland has developed an unusual idea.

Her project, Eco Purge, is a plant-based biodegradable plastic designed to release an enzyme as it breaks down—an enzyme that could potentially help degrade PET microplastics in soil and water.

But the most interesting part isn't just the material.

It is how the idea started.

She was initially working on a project to detect contaminants in drinking water.

Then she asked a bigger question:

If we can detect microplastics, what can we actually do about them?

That question changed the direction of her work.

Eco Purge is still an emerging innovation, and much more research and development would be needed before anything like this could be considered a scalable solution.

But it gives us something important to think about.

We often focus on collecting plastic after it becomes waste.

What if we also invested much more energy in redesigning the materials and systems that create the problem in the first place?

For Nigeria, this matters.

Plastic that enters our streets can enter drains.
Plastic that escapes our waste systems can enter waterways.
And larger pieces can eventually break down into much smaller particles that become much harder to remove.

Innovation can help.

But innovation works best alongside better everyday choices, responsible production and stronger waste systems.

That is why learning matters.

What plastic problem in your community do you think young innovators should be challenged to solve next?
