🗣️“When we say check your state budget, this is exactly what we are talking about.”

In 2020, we visited Government Day Secondary School, Diko, Gurara LGA, Niger State, and found the school in a completely dysfunctional and dilapidated state. Meanwhile, this is the only government secondary school serving about 14 different communities, yet students are forced to learn in terrible conditions.

Classrooms have no doors or windows, roofs are collapsing, ceilings ripped off, and many students sit on bare floors during lessons. Even more concerning, the schools lack perimeter fencing, exposing students and staff to serious security threats at a time insecurity remains a major national concern.

In 2025, the school appeared in the Niger State Budget with N457.6m allocated for renovation. According to her 2025 fourth quarter Budget Implementation Report, N400m i.e. 87.4% of the funds has already been disbursed.

But the shocking reality is that there is absolutely no evidence of project ex*****on on ground. No contractor. No ongoing work. No rehabilitation. Nothing.

We visited both the senior secondary school and the relocated junior secondary section over 3km away, and the conditions remain the same, abandoned, unsafe, and neglected.

🧐 How can N400m be reportedly spent while children continue learning in collapsing classrooms without furniture or security?
🧐 Who received the funds?
🧐 Who certified the project performance?
🧐 Where exactly was the money spent?

Sadly, this is gradually becoming a disturbing trend across several states. Despite increasing allocations and rising public revenues, citizens continue to see little or no corresponding development in critical sectors like education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

We call on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and
ICPC Nigeria to urgently investigate this matter and ensure accountability for public funds meant for education development.

Nigeria should not continue budgeting for progress while communities remain trapped in neglect. We must do better.

The Sagamu - Ijebu Ode road, once a major nightmare for commuters and road users, is gradually receiving a much-needed facelift.

This week, our tracking visit shows significant progress on the project. Concrete pavement from the Sagamu Interchange to Delabo Junction has now been fixed on both sides of the road, improving movement along critical sections of the corridor.

🛣️Our findings also revealed that work has progressed beyond Ijebu Ode on one lane of the road, while workers and construction teams were actively seen at different points carrying out repairs and reconstruction across multiple sections.

🚦Streetlights have also been installed along some parts of the corridor, an important addition expected to improve visibility, safety, and nighttime transportation along the route.

This progress is encouraging considering the economic importance of the road to transportation, trade, and interstate movement.

We will continue monitoring the project to ensure timely completion, quality delivery, and value for public funds committed to the project.

In April 2026, we tracked the ongoing construction of the Kaduna Eastern Bypass Road with spur to Rabah Road in Kaduna State, a 2024 FG project under Federal Ministry of Works, being handled by Eksiogullari Construction Limited.

The project remains active with ongoing earthworks, drainage construction, pavement laying, bridge works, and interchange connections observed across multiple sections of the alignment. Engineers, contractors, heavy-duty equipment, and labour teams were all present on site during the inspection.

Our tracking also show that some portions of the road have already been opened to traffic, while work continues on critical sections of the bypass and the Rabah Road interchange expected to significantly improve connectivity and reduce congestion within Kaduna metropolis.

Upon completion, the project is expected to:
✅ Reduce traffic congestion within Kaduna city
✅ Improve access to Rabah Road and adjoining communities
✅ Provide alternative routes for heavy-duty vehicles
✅ Support commerce and transportation logistics
✅ Boost economic activities across Kaduna State and the North-West region.

We will continue monitoring this project to ensure timely completion, accountability, and value for public funds spent on the project.

Data is powerful, but only when it is used to drive action and influence change.

As part of the 2026 Climate Champions Fellowship, we are excited to host Iniobong Usen, Senior Programme Officer at the International Budget Partnership, for a session on “Research and Data Analysis for Effective Advocacy” tomorrow, 26 May, 2026.

This session will equip fellows with practical knowledge on how to transform research, data, and evidence into strong advocacy tools for climate accountability and sustainable development.

It is our believe that effective climate advocacy must be backed by credible data, community evidence, and strategic storytelling that can influence policy and drive government action.

The future of climate accountability belongs to informed advocates ready to ask the right questions and follow the evidence. 🌍📊

Dear Governor Ododo Usman Ahmed and The Kogi State Government,

For over 40 years, students of Community Secondary School, Gegu-Beki in Kogi LGA, Kogi State, have continued to learn under the same mud structures built by the community in 1980 without any meaningful renovation or rehabilitation.

Today, the school serves about 500 students from 18 surrounding communities, yet the conditions are heartbreaking. There are no functional chairs or desks, classrooms lack doors and windows, and the school has no perimeter fence despite the growing insecurity across the country.

At a time when communities are increasingly worried about the safety of children, students in this school remain exposed and vulnerable in open, dilapidated classrooms that can barely protect them from weather or security threats.

During a townhall meeting held in May 2026 at the palace of Nyiwo of Gegu-Beki, community stakeholders expressed deep frustration over years of neglect despite repeated appeals for intervention.

How do children learn effectively in collapsing mud classrooms without furniture, windows, doors, or security?
How do we preach quality education while students study in fear and unsafe conditions?

In conjunction with the community, we have written to your office, Senator Karimi Sunday, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, and . D S Aguye, representing Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency, calling for urgent rehabilitation, reconstruction, fencing, and provision of learning facilities for the school.

These children deserve more than survival; they deserve safety, dignity, and a proper learning environment.

24/05/2026

Dear Governor Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the Benue State 2025 Quarter 4 Budget Implementation Report shows that N338.5m, representing about 86.2% of the total approved sum for the renovation of GOVERNMENT DAY SECONDARY SCHOOL ALIADE, BENUE STATE. has already been disbursed.

However, our tracking visit to the school presents a deeply troubling reality. The school infrastructure remains in a deplorable state, the roofs of the buildings have already turned brown from deterioration, parts of the walls are collapsing, classrooms remain unsafe, and the hostel facilities are in even worse condition. Most concerning is that there is absolutely no visible sign of ongoing renovation work despite the huge amount reportedly released.

This raises serious accountability concerns:
🤔 Which contractor was awarded the project?
🤔 Why is the contractor absent from site?
🤔 What procurement process was followed?
🤔 How was such a huge amount disbursed without visible project ex*****on?

Public funds meant to improve learning conditions for students cannot continue to disappear into projects that exist only on paper while children continue to study in unsafe and abandoned environments.

We urgently call on you, the Benue State Government, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and ICPC Nigeria to urgently investigate this project and help Benue indigenes and Nigerians understand what exactly is happening here.

🎤This is another reminder that citizens must go beyond listening to budget speeches and start tracking budget implementation. The real question is not what government promises, but what happens after funds are released.

Nigerians, there are many revelations hidden inside state budget implementation reports. Start asking questions, start demanding answers and start tracking projects in your communities.

In April 2026, our team paid monitoring visits to several PHC facilities across Akwa Ibom state.

PHC Ibong Otoro in Abak LGA is in working condition still lacks sufficient staffing.

Currently, they have only two community health workers, no cleaners, and two health attendants, while serving six communities that rely on this facility for their health needs. The facility is not able to run 24/7 because of this.

Another notable gap is the lack of perimeter fencing. This is needed to improve security.

We implore the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Federal Ministry of Health Nigeria, to address these needs to improve the quality of healthcare at this facility.

In Aug 2025, N755m was paid to RAYOZ DIGIT SERVICES LTD ABUJA for the Emergency Construction and Installation of Solar Street Light Amenities in Rural Areas of Ikot Akai, Nto Okpo, Inen & Nkari Communities, Akwa Ibom state.

We visited Nto Okpo, Essien Udim LGA, one of the beneficiaries of this project and report that this project has not been done.

According to the village head, the community has been in darkness for the past 15years. No electricity or solar streetlights.

He lamented how this has negatively impacted residents, stressing how much this provision is needed.

We implore Min of Agric & Food Security, the implementing agency to provide the public with details of how funds disbursed to this project was used.
