From Complaints to Action: The Power of Youth Participation in Community Development

Every day, we see it.
Bad roads. Poor drainage. Irregular waste disposal. Limited opportunities.

We talk about these issues in our homes, on the streets, and especially on social media. But the real question is — what happens after the complaints?

Community development does not begin with the government alone. It begins with us — the young people who live, work, and grow in Igando–Ikotun.

Youth participation is one of the most powerful tools for change. When young people get involved, communities become more active, more accountable, and more progressive.

Being involved doesn’t always mean holding a political position. It starts with simple but meaningful actions:
• Staying informed about what is happening in your community
• Supporting and monitoring ongoing projects
• Volunteering for community initiatives
• Using your voice responsibly to advocate for change
• Promoting unity instead of division

When youths move from just talking to actually taking action, things begin to shift. Leaders become more accountable. Projects receive more attention. Progress becomes visible.
