Foundation urges Sanwo-Olu, Dapo Abiodun, others to further champion policies, initiatives for PWLD

-----Commends Ijo Idapo Mimo Aladura for Exemplary Philanthropy

A passionate appeal has been made to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his Ogun State counterpart and others to further champion policies and initiatives that would alleviate the sufferings and stigmatization of people living with disabilities in our society.

The call was made by the Coordinator of the Kehinde Oshilaja Foundation, Comrade Kehinde Oshilaja, during a thanksgiving service marking the foundation’s annual get-together. The event was held today at the Ijo Idapo Mimo Aladura Church, Ebute-Metta, Lagos, and drew members of the disability community, religious leaders, and well-wishers.

Oshilaja expressed profound appreciation to the church for its remarkable act of generosity, awarding a comprehensive scholarship to one of the foundation’s members, Jamiu Ewetunde, an orphan living with multiple disabilities, including hearing and speech impairments as well as physical mobility challenges. The scholarship covers his education from primary school through to the university level.
Describing the gesture as “rare and exemplary,” Oshilaja emphasized that such acts of kindness should serve as a model for governments and institutions across the country.
“This is a rare feat that should be emulated by all and sundry, especially by our governments at every level. The spirit of compassion demonstrated by the Ijo Idapo Mimo Aladura Church shows that inclusive support for vulnerable members of society is both possible and impactful. Notably, Jamiu is not even a member of the church, yet they chose to extend this life-changing opportunity to him,” he said.

Announcing the scholarship, the spokesperson of the church, Dr. Gbenga Awe, disclosed that the initiative was undertaken with the support and approval of the Deputy Primate of the church, Samuel O. Opadola. He explained that the decision was inspired by the church’s commitment to Christian values of love, charity, and service to humanity.
Dr. Awe commended Oshilaja for his unwavering dedication to advocating for the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities, often placing their needs above his personal interests.
“Comrade Oshilaja’s selfless commitment to the cause of persons with disabilities reflects the biblical injunction to love our neighbours as ourselves. His advocacy continues to inspire collective action towards building a more compassionate society,” Awe stated.
The event featured prayers, goodwill messages, and a renewed call for collaborative efforts among government agencies, faith-based organisations, and civil society groups to dismantle barriers confronting persons with disabilities in Nigeria.
Stakeholders at the gathering emphasized that beyond charitable gestures, there is an urgent need for sustained policy implementation, improved accessibility, and expanded educational and economic opportunities for PLWDs, in line with global best practices and Nigeria’s commitment to inclusive development.
The scholarship awarded to Jamiu Ewetunde stands as a beacon of hope and a testament to the transformative power of compassion, reinforcing the role of faith-based institutions in advancing social welfare and national development.

Over 150 Elderly, People Living With Disabilities Stranded As Lagos Agency Fails To Release Approved Funds, Foundation Laments | Sahara Reporters https://bit.ly/469csWq

Foundation accuses Lagos agency of withholding disability funds appeals to Sanwo Olu for intervention.
The Kehinde Oshinlaja Foundation for people living with Disability and the Aged had accused a Lagos state government agency of failing to release funds promised for it's 2025 Annual Subsatainability Fund raising initiative, a setback that reportedly left more than 150 beneficiaries stranded.
The event, which took place on Thursday, August 22,was designed to provide essential support for elderly individuals with disabilities across Lagos state's three senatorial districts. According to the Foundation, the programme collapsed after the pledged funds did not arrive, forcing organisers to abandon planned assistance for some of the state's most vulnerable residents.
Comrade Kehinde Oshinlaja, the foundation's coordinator, expressed disappointment, stating that assurances from the agency has raised expectation among the elderly and disabled. He pledged that the programe would be re- staged once the funds were retrieved and promised a transparent process involving government representatives, traditional leaders and security agencies.
Community elder chief Adefa Iwalesin condemned the alleged misappropriation of resources earmarked for vulnerable citizens, describing it as a taboo," while calling for patience as the state government investigates the claims.
The incident also drew a deeply emotional reaction from the representative of the Assistant Inspector General of Police who reportedly wept at the gathering denouncing the failure to deliver the funds is a sign of disregard to lawful authority.
The foundation directly to Lagos state governor Babajide San -wolu to step in and ensure accountability if corruption is not confronted ,it will continue to harm the weakest among us.We trust the Governor's sense of justice and fairness, the group said in a statement.

Foundation Appeals to President Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu for Hajj and Jerusalem Pilgrimage Slots for People Living with Disabilities

Lagos, Nigeria — The Kehinde Oshilaja Foundation, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to the welfare of people living with disabilities (PLWDs), has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other state governors across Nigeria to ensure the inclusion of PLWDs in pilgrimage opportunities to Hajj and Jerusalem.

Speaking during a palliative distribution and get-together organised for its members in Lagos over the weekend, the founder, Mr. Kehinde Oshilaja, made the appeal as part of activities marking the Eid-el-Kabir celebration. The event took place at the Foundation’s office located on Simpson Street by Ladipo Street, Ebute Meta, Lagos.

“We implore our spirit-filled Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his fellow governors across Nigeria, and indeed our President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to remember us whenever pilgrimage slots for Hajj or Jerusalem are being allocated,” Oshilaja said.

“We ask that at least two slots be reserved for people living with disabilities. Among us are Christians, Muslims, and even traditional worshippers — some of whom journey annually to countries like Brazil and Cuba to fulfill their religious obligations. We believe in your leadership and trust that this inclusion will be implemented.”

Oshilaja also used the occasion to extend greetings for both Eid-el-Kabir and Democracy Day, while emphasizing the dire economic and health challenges confronting PLWDs.

“We are hungry, we are dying — many of us have no access to adequate food and healthcare. We appeal to government at all levels to act swiftly,” he lamented.

The event featured prayers, feasting, and a sermon by the guest speaker, Sheikh Imam Rasaq Bello, Chief Imam of the Ahmadiyya Central Mosque, Ebute Meta. In his exhortation, Sheikh Bello urged Nigerians to embrace patience, unity, and religious tolerance.

“Prophet Ibrahim (AS) waited nearly 90 years before he was blessed with a son, and he remained faithful and fulfilled his vow to God,” the cleric noted. “Those in power must emulate this example — they must keep their promises to the people, especially the vulnerable.”

He also called on leaders to be mindful of the plight of the masses, particularly those living with disabilities, stressing that governance must be rooted in compassion and inclusiveness.

The foundation expressed gratitude to sponsors and supporters who made the event a success, including the Ansarudeen Society, Ebute Meta Branch; Mrs. Olanrewaju of Selek Group of Schools; Alhaji Lateef Olanrewaju Sodiq; Chief Abiodun Jamiu Kakawa; as well as other stakeholders and well-wishers.

Special appreciation was also extended to members of the press, religious leaders, the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, and advisers such as Hon. Ganiu Sofolahan and Comrade Wale Balogun, for their continuous support.

“May Almighty Allah reward everyone who contributed to this beautiful program, and may the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Lagos State continue to thrive in peace and unity,” Oshilaja concluded.
