SOLIDARITY MESSAGE
From: Maria Foundation for Women Development - MFWOD
To: The People of Oyo State & Families of Abducted Pupils & Teachers of Oriire LGA
Date: June 4, 2026
With heavy hearts, Maria Foundation for Women Development - MFWOD, a women-led NGO working for the safety and leadership of women and girls in Nigeria, stands in solidarity with the people of Oyo State.
We are deeply saddened by the abduction of 39 school pupils and 7 class teachers from schools in Oriire Local Government Area. No child should fear going to school. No teacher should risk their life while educating the next generation. This attack is an attack on the future of Oyo State, on education, and on the rights of every girl and boy to learn in safety.
To the parents, guardians, and families waiting in anguish:
We see your pain. You are not alone.
We pray for the safe and immediate return of all 39 pupils and 7 teachers. We pray for strength for you during this dark moment.
To the people of Oyo State: MFWOD joins your voices in demanding urgent action. The abduction of children is unacceptable. We call on the Federal Government, Oyo State Government, and security agencies to prioritize rescue operations, secure our schools, and implement the Safe School Initiative without delay.
As women, as mothers, as advocates, we say Our girls must not be pawns in insecurity. Education must never be a dangerous path.
MFWOD commits to supporting psychosocial care for affected families and amplifying community voices for safer schools across Lagos and Oyo. We will not be silent until every child is home.
