SOLIDARITY MESSAGE
From: Maria Foundation for Women Development - MFWOD
To: The People of Oyo State & Families of Abducted Pupils & Teachers of Oriire LGA
Date: June 4, 2026

With heavy hearts, Maria Foundation for Women Development - MFWOD, a women-led NGO working for the safety and leadership of women and girls in Nigeria, stands in solidarity with the people of Oyo State.

We are deeply saddened by the abduction of 39 school pupils and 7 class teachers from schools in Oriire Local Government Area. No child should fear going to school. No teacher should risk their life while educating the next generation. This attack is an attack on the future of Oyo State, on education, and on the rights of every girl and boy to learn in safety.

To the parents, guardians, and families waiting in anguish:
We see your pain. You are not alone.
We pray for the safe and immediate return of all 39 pupils and 7 teachers. We pray for strength for you during this dark moment.

To the people of Oyo State: MFWOD joins your voices in demanding urgent action. The abduction of children is unacceptable. We call on the Federal Government, Oyo State Government, and security agencies to prioritize rescue operations, secure our schools, and implement the Safe School Initiative without delay.

As women, as mothers, as advocates, we say Our girls must not be pawns in insecurity. Education must never be a dangerous path.

MFWOD commits to supporting psychosocial care for affected families and amplifying community voices for safer schools across Lagos and Oyo. We will not be silent until every child is home.

Press Statement
For Immediate Release

Subject: Condemnation of the Gruesome Killing of Miss Wendy Achumba a Student of College of Nursing, Umulogho, Obowo, Imo State

Issued by: Maria Foundation for Women Development
Signed:,
Founder & Executive Director Princess Chioma Amanze

The Maria Foundation for Women Development condemns in the strongest terms the gruesome killing of a young Nigerian student of the College of Nursing, Umulogho, Obowo, Imo State.

We received the news with profound shock and grief. No young woman pursuing her education and service to humanity should lose her life in such a brutal and senseless manner. Every girl child deserves to learn, grow, and contribute to her community without fear of violence.

This act is not only an attack on one student and her family; it is an attack on the future of Nigerian women, on education, and on the safety of girls across the country. When young women in training to become caregivers are targeted, it undermines trust in our institutions and threatens the progress we are working to achieve in gender equality and inclusion.

We demand the following:
1. Immediate and thorough investigation by the relevant security agencies to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
2. Swift prosecution* in accordance with the law, to ensure justice is served and impunity does not prevail.
3. Enhanced protection* for students and young women in educational institutions across Imo State and Nigeria at large.
4. Support for the victim’s family* during this period of unimaginable loss.

At Maria Foundation for Women Development, our mission is to amplify the voice of the girl child through leadership and inclusion. We cannot build a society where girls lead if their lives are not protected. We stand with the family, classmates, and the entire College of Nursing community in this moment of pain.

We call on government authorities, civil society, traditional leaders, and the public to speak out and act decisively against all forms of violence targeting women and girls. Silence enables brutality. Justice delayed is justice denied.

May the soul of the departed rest in peace, and may her memory strengthen our resolve to protect every Nigerian girl’s right to safety, education, and dignity.
