Spotlight on Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim!
In the heart of the Sahel, where the land speaks in whispers of wind and resilience, Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim stands as a powerful voice for both women and the environment.
As a proud indigenous leader of the Mbororo pastoralist community in Chad, Hindou has spent years advocating for the inclusion of indigenous women’s knowledge in climate action. From pioneering participatory 3D mapping to standing on global platforms like the United Nations and World Economic Forum, she is reshaping the way the world approaches climate justice.
“Let women take the lead and see the progress that can be made in averting catastrophic climate change,” she says. And she’s right. When women lead, climate policies become stronger, communities become more resilient, and the planet thrives.
At Ecofemtales, we are inspired by Hindou’s journey and the intersection of gender, indigenous wisdom, and environmental sustainability. Her story is a testament to the power of listening, the strength of indigenous women, and the undeniable truth that climate justice is also a fight for gender equality.
