TAKE RESPONSIBILITY

There is one of my patients whom I have always had his Electrocardiogram(ECG) done and mostly comes out abnormal.

When he first presented in our hospital, he was almost unconscious and was admitted in critical care. He had history of Smoking, Alcohol and unhealthy lifestyle.

However, after discharge he made a decision to adjust on alcohol intake and follow medical advice as instructed by the cardiologist.

For these past six months, his medical report has been optimal and today I did his ECG and it came out normal.

When asked me, please what is my report?

I responded, the result of your ECG is good. His vitals He was excited and kept saying " I thank God.

Decisions are powerful, inasmuch as the doctors are called to help save lives. You have a role to play in maintaining your health, medications alone are not enough.

You can start by brushing your teeth twice a day, morning and after your last meal at night.☺️

The Dangers of self medications.

I currently work in a diagnostic centre, hence the Nurses are the next contact persons after they have made enquiries from the reception.

I have read many times about severe allergy from medications or overdosage, but I haven't seen it in the course of my practice. However today, I was able to see the clinical manifestations and they were obvious.

It was in the emergency department when a lady worked up to me itching her body.
She explained how she is currently feeling and how she noticed the reactions on her body after taking some medicines.

She caught a sore throat infection while going home the previous day, hence she decided to take some antibiotics and pain relief medications.

On observation, the signs were visible and her eyes were swollen with severe itching.

I informed my head nurse, we quickly administered emergency treatment and placed her on observation.

She was further advised not to take medications without the Doctor's prescription as all drugs are temporal poisons and should be handled with care.

We understand that in our country where access to healthcare information and treatment is not readily available. It is crucial to you talk with your doctor before taking medications especially antibiotics because you may end up building chain of resistance in your body before you eventually show up for treatment.

I'm also available to give you the health information you need.
