Day 24: Disciplined

True champions are built through guidance, discipline, and structure. Today, Coach Wilson took the lead in teaching the Champions the importance of order, a value that sits at the heart of what we represent at Kish Academy, where we nurture creativity and leadership through systems that shape character and competence. Order is not restriction; it is the rhythm that makes greatness sustainable.

The day came alive as the Champions lined up to take on new tasks and bicycle rides, learning teamwork, patience, and coordination. The senior Champions went head-to-head in Scrabble and chess competitions, applying the Kish Rule “Always follow the order” as they strategized, respected turns, and embraced healthy competition. Every move and every word they played reminded us that discipline is the silent engine behind excellence.

We must take responsibility for educating minds that can think, organize, and lead with clarity.

Africa’s youth are not just a number; they are our continent’s most powerful advantage, full of energy, ideas, and resilience waiting to be directed toward progress.

Day 23: Guided to Greatness

Every great champion begins with a guide. Today, our coaches demonstrated the power of mentorship and structure. From Coach Wilson, who carefully directed our storytelling session to help each child find their creative voice, to our Head Coach, who supervised the chess games and ensured the young minds learned strategy, patience, and focus.

The day’s activities reflected this truth, the Champions created and acted out their own stories, learning self-expression and confidence in the process. Kevwe Omoyibo, inspired by her Yabatech Art Gallery experience, designed an impressive fashion illustration. The younger Champions explored the intricate world chess and through each move, they learned that growth happens when we follow direction of those who teach us with respect and humility.

Africa’s future depends on how we nurture her children today. No one else will take responsibility for Africa’s transformation, it begins with us. Let’s invest our time, knowledge, and passion into shaping the next generation. The energy of Africa’s youth is her greatest strength.

KISH ACADEMY

Purposeful Task Ownership
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

One of the many things we emphasize at Kish Academy is coaching Champions to take initiative and ownership of tasks skills that prepare them for real life.

Today, Coach Halimat did just that by guiding a young Champion through her first major fashion project. We exist to bridge knowledge gaps, foster creativity, and help young minds grow beyond the classroom.

Kevwe Omoyibo, one of our Champions, got her first sewing contract to sew a bag for her sister, Ivy Omoyibo. Her mom commissioned this job following her earlier sales of a bag to another Champion at the Academy. The next day, Kevwe approached Coach Halimat and said, “Can you guide and supervise me? I’ll share the reward with you as appreciation.” Coach Halimat agreed. Kevwe joyfully measured, cut and sewed the bag herself. During the process, she said, “I’m not doing this for the money; I want to make a sample so I can sew and sell more.” After completing the project, she took pictures with her sister and Coach Halimat, gave a big hug, and left fulfilled. She lived out Rule 3 “Always think like the champion”.

Africa must raise young minds who solve problems early. No one else will do it for us.

Day 36: Fun At The Pool
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Today was truly eventful!

We arrived at the swimming pool on time, but to our surprise, the pool wasn’t ready despite my earlier visit on Saturday to remind the management. So, we had to move. Our next stop was Ehi Resort, but unfortunately, their pool was under repair and unavailable.

At that point, I asked the Champions if we should reschedule the outing. Their response was inspiring: “Let’s find another pool!” On our way to a third location, we ran into the manager of the first pool. He promised to do a quick clean-up for us, so we returned there.

While the clean-up was in progress, we made the best use of our time by shooting our dance content at the venue — and it was absolutely awesome! 🎶💃🕺

In the end, the swimming outing turned out to be *on point*. ✅

Day 22: Learning Pathways

The day brimmed with learning moments as Maryam welcomed her mum during activities and patiently introduced her to the scrabble board. She explained the power of two-letter words, demonstrating communication skills and analytical reasoning in the simplest form. On another table, Shindara Adegoke challenged Mr. Wilson to a chess match, walking him through fresh strategies and teaching him to anticipate moves. This act reflected problem solving, interpersonal engagement and the ability to rationalize situations while inspiring confidence in others.

The most remarkable moment of the day came when Maryam’s mum joined the session to share in her daughter’s growth. That interaction captured the essence of an alternative educational ecosystem, where learning is not confined to age or position but flows naturally between family, coaches and Champions. It is this blend of curiosity, creativity and support that makes the programme a space where knowledge gaps are bridged and the learning journey is enriched.

The efforts of Mrs. Abdulganiyu, who stepped in on her day off, and the one-on-one guidance Mr. Gideon offered each Champion, reveal what is possible when stakeholders take ownership of Africa’s future. With every act of patience, correction and encouragement, children are better positioned to lead transformation.

Every deliberate step in nurturing young minds today is a seed for a stronger, more innovative Africa tomorrow.

Day 21: Champion Spirit

The day unfolded with energy as Champions immersed themselves in their boxing class, sharpening focus and discipline while strengthening resilience. In another corner, creativity and teamwork thrived as Champions performed their new dance routine, refining coordination and self-expression in preparation for the music video shoot. These moments revealed not just physical skills but also problem solving, communication and analytical abilities in action.

A memorable scene captured the essence of learning when two little Champions re-enacted the boxing class. One slipped on a coaching pad while the other wore a boxing glove, creating a playful yet powerful illustration of observation, imagination and interpersonal connection. It is in these expressions that the vision of building an alternative educational ecosystem becomes vivid, one where knowledge and creativity meet in ways that inspire lifelong learning.

Coach Rasheed extended training time in the boxing class, reminding Champions that progress comes with effort and consistency. The head coach made precise corrections to the dance choreography, showing the value of attention to detail and constructive guidance. These moments of support reflect what is possible when Africa’s young people are nurtured intentionally, paving the way for transformation through persistence, collaboration and vision.

Every little step taken today signals the promise of a continent rising when its youth are guided with care, discipline and creativity.

Day 20: Champion Order

The day’s activities at the annual Kish Academy Bootcamp centred on mind-sharpening games such as scrabble and chess. Beyond play, the Champions acquired new skills that sharpened their ability to think analytically, strategise effectively, and engage in meaningful exchanges with peers. Through these exercises, they not only improved their gameplay but also strengthened their communication, interpersonal and problem-solving abilities—skills that will serve them well far beyond the board.

The most remarkable moment of the day came when the Champions learnt to be orderly before each transition. This lesson resonated strongly with the values of our organisation, which is dedicated to creating an ecosystem that bridges learning gaps whilst nurturing creativity and discipline. Order and structure are not merely classroom virtues; they are essential habits that empower participants to maximise every opportunity presented to them.

Coach Wilson exemplified this principle when he calmed an almost rowdy moment and redirected the Champions towards purposeful engagement. Together with the head coach, who reinforced strategy through chess and word mastery, they provided the kind of guidance that shows what is possible when young Africans are supported with intention and care. Such deliberate coaching fosters transformation one thoughtful lesson at a time.

Africa’s growth depends upon consistent, co-ordinated investment in its young people. When efforts are channelled into shaping order, strategy, and resilience, the result is not only better learners but also future leaders capable of driving the continent’s advancement.

Day 18: Resilient Spirit

The Champions displayed remarkable problem solving abilities during their activities, particularly in the Snake and Ladder competition. One young Champion who was repeatedly pushed down the board refused to give up, stayed calm, and eventually won the game. This resilience in the face of setbacks is the kind of skill that builds character and prepares them for life’s bigger challenges.

The true high point of the day came through Michelle’s composure. Her ability to remain steady under pressure and rise above repeated obstacles reflects the essence of the alternative learning ecosystem we provide. It is about much more than academics. It is about bridging gaps, nurturing creativity, and enriching the learning journey in ways that prepare Champions for the realities of life.

Even our coaches exemplified resilience. Despite sustaining a scissors injury during the fashion class, Coach Zainab pressed on with her lesson, supported by her colleague who cared for her wound and kept the young Champions engaged. This teamwork and commitment created an environment where learning did not stop, reinforcing the strength of collaboration.

When resilience becomes a way of life for both learners and mentors, challenges turn into stepping stones for a brighter future.

Day 17: Bootcamp Relaxation

The Champions immersed themselves in a powerful drama session with our creative coach, where they learned the art of storytelling and the ability to communicate messages in ways that captivate and inspire. Their performances showed a growing confidence in using communication skills to connect meaningfully with others, and the excitement on their faces was a testament to their progress.

The most memorable moment of the day came when the review of their recent visit to Yabatech Art Gallery was revisited. This reaffirmed the value of creating experiences that open new worlds of imagination. It is exactly what our ecosystem strives to deliver: an enriching learning journey that bridges gaps and fosters creativity.

Across Africa, nurturing children through deliberate, collaborative efforts has the potential to shape the future. When coaches share expertise, parents provide encouragement, and mentors guide with care, transformation becomes possible. It is through such collective investment that lasting change can take root and communities can thrive.

When learning goes beyond classrooms and becomes a shared experience of growth, creativity, and discovery, the possibilities for Africa’s next generation are endless.

Day 15: Our Co-Creators
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Our evolution at Kish has been phenomenal.

We started with volunteers who handled different aspects of our operations when we were strictly a social impact project to support teenagers and preteens in our community. In eight months it became evident that social impact alone will not deliver the outcomes we desired and volunteering would not be sustainable, hence our push for Co-Creators that will aid our new plan of raising Champions.

Coach Halimah and our head coach became the first Kish Co-Creators and during this Bootcamp, Mr. Wilson Dimkpa joined our Co-Creator team. When he said he had goodies I asked him to list what he has to offer and this is what he said:

* Song writing
* Music production

"I'm not a PhD holder in all of them but I know enough to stand and make positive impact in each of them", he concluded.

He started coaching the Champions two days after we had our first conversation and also forwarded four music production he worked on.

All I can say is that our Champions are in great hands.
