Students Visit NCMM Kaduna to Explore Northern Nigeria’s History
Students of Suleiman Evergreen Schools Kurmin-Mashi have undertaken an educational excursion to the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM) in Kaduna, aimed at deepening their understanding of the history and cultural heritage of Northern Nigeria.
The visit, organized by the school as part of its academic enrichment programme, provided the students with firsthand exposure to a wide range of historical artifacts and cultural exhibits preserved at the museum.
Upon arrival, officials from the Commission welcomed the students and provided a brief orientation on the NCMM's mandate, emphasizing its role in preserving and promoting Nigeria’s cultural heritage. The students were subsequently guided through various galleries where they observed collections of ancient tools, traditional weapons, pottery, and archival photographs documenting pre-colonial and colonial Northern Nigeria.
Speaking during the visit, one of the guides highlighted the importance of museums in educating younger generations about their roots, noting that “understanding history is essential to shaping a better future.”
Some of the students expressed enthusiasm over the experience, describing it as both enlightening and impactful. They noted that seeing historical materials in person gave them a clearer perspective compared to classroom learning alone.
Teachers who accompanied the students stated that the excursion was designed to complement academic instruction and encourage critical engagement with Nigeria’s historical development.
The visit is expected to strengthen students’ appreciation for cultural preservation and broaden their knowledge of the diverse traditions and historical evolution of Northern Nigeria.
