Decapolis Community Development Center

Decapolis Community Development Center We are a group of community-based development centers in impoverished, rural areas in Nigeria. We are on track to train over 2,000 farmers in 2024 alone.

We target the most vulnerable, small-scale farmers and empower them to improve their own communities through hands-on training in regenerative agriculture. Decapolis Community Development Center is a community-based development program working in impoverished, rural communities in Nigeria. We target the most vulnerable and empower them - through hands-on training in regenerative agriculture. We pr

imarily train small-scale farmers to teach them how they can feed their family and make a profit on less than 1 hectare of land. Our multi-day trainings for small-scale farmers and community leaders are currently held at our training locations in FCT Abuja and Kogi State, and we do on-site trainings in various communities across the country for local farmers and farmers' cooperatives, with special consideration given to IDP camps, orphanages, and after-care programs for trafficking victims.

“Coming together is the beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” ~ Henry Ford

Decapolis is dedicated to the success of every farmer, and the most effective way to achieve this is for everyone in the community to progress together out of the vicious cycle of poverty, hunger, and dependency. This is why our trainings are community-based.

👼🏾👼🏽👼🏿“Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of God who is in heaven.”

🥣Malnutrition is a direct or underlying cause of 45% of all deaths among children under five in Nigeria, and Nigeria is frequently cited by the UN as having the highest number of annual under-five deaths. These are numbers that Decapolis looks to reduce through teaching .

🍃Regenerative farming addresses malnutrition by restoring soil health to produce more nutrient-dense food, diversifying crops to improve dietary variety, and enhancing local food security, which together tackle both "hidden hunger" (micronutrient deficiencies) and food shortages. By focusing on soil health, as well as increased yields, these practices increase the availability of vitamins and minerals in crops.

Decapolis trainings are designed for maximum impact and effectiveness. That's why we focus on field-based demonstration and hands-on training, which allows farmers to be actively engaged with immediate practice in the new skills they are learning. This type of engagement improves knowledge retention by up to 75% and improves adoption rates significantly by directly engaging learners with the knowledge, materials and processes needed for successful implementation.

Why does Decapolis teach an integrated pest management approach in place of using pesticides?

Here's one VERY good reason. Recent research shows that the use of pesticides may be contributing to the increase in Type 2 diabetes and other health issues across predominantly agrarian societies who would normally be at low risk for developing such diseases, due to changes pesticides make not just in the soil microbiomes, but in the microbiome of our gut!

is not just farming—it's investing in health. 🌱

This is the face of a very satisfied farmer! He received Decapolis' regenerative agriculture training last year in Kwande LGA of Benue State. He produced these yams without making heaps and without the cost of any chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides.

📉Farming costs are down, 📈 yield is up, and his 🥔yam farm has become a spontaneous demonstration farm laboratory for the locals in his village. Real success doesn't shout. It shows up in results!

MARCH 2026 UPDATE

March marked the successful conclusion of our very first, large-scale training project undertaken in partnership with an international aid organization. It was a big growth step for our ministry, and it has opened many doors for us to reach more and more communities with the redemptive message of regenerative agriculture.

2026 has been dubbed the International Year of the Woman Farmer. This has been especially meaningful for us, as we have really been focusing on empowering
women smallholder farmers(SHFs). Women farmers are central to food security, nutrition, and economic resilience at the family, community, and national levels, yet though they comprise more than 70% of the agriculture labor force in Nigeria, they only receive ~7% of training opportunities. Decapolis has been making strategic changes in our program design to enable us to reach more women,
and we have grown from fewer than 5% of trainees being women in 2023 to more than 70% currently.

This impact on women and families led to us being
invited to attend and contribute to a special dialogue session with global leaders on the empowerment of women for poverty alleviation in the country. It was quite an honor (and Raph even got to meet a media celebrity* he’s admired since childhood-know who she is?)! Thank you for your continued prayers for wisdom, as we strive to be faithful stewards of each new opportunity.

“And pray for us, too, that God may
open a door for our message...and that
we may make the most of every opportunity”
~ Colossians 4:3,5

🍃"But I will bless the person who puts his trust in me. He is like a tree growing near a stream and sending out roots to the water. It is not afraid when hot weather comes, because its leaves stay green; it has no worries when there is no rain; it keeps on bearing fruit." 🍃

🕊🌱👨🏾‍🌾As conflicts intensify across the globe, Decapolis continues to champion regenerative agriculture as a pathway to stability—for when we nourish the soil, we nourish peace. promotes peace by using farming, resource management, and food security to reduce conflict, build resilience, and foster stability in volatile regions. Agricultural development addresses the root causes of violence—poverty and inequality—providing people with the opportunity to grow economically and be part of a community that looks out for each other.

It's the International Year of the Woman Farmer, and what a joy to see our women smallholder farmers not only implementing what they've learned, but teaching it to their children and encouraging their children to teach it to others.
