*PRESS RELEASE*
*NYCN KATCHA EXPRESSES ITS CONDOLENCES TO THE PEOPLE OF ESSA VILLAGE OVER THE TRAGIC LOSS OF LIFE DUE TO THE TANKER EXPLOSION.*

The Leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Katcha Local Government Chapter, expresses its heartfelt condolences to the people of Essa Ward, Katcha Local Government Area, following the tragic tanker explosion that has profoundly affected the community.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the families who have lost their loved ones, praying that Almighty Allah grants eternal peace to the departed souls and bestows strength and patience upon the bereaved. We also pray for the swift and full recovery of all injured victims.

In light of this tragedy, we urgently call on the Niger State Government and the Federal Government to expedite the completion of the Agaie-Baddegi-Bida road project. The current poor condition of this vital route compromises safety and has contributed to the difficulties faced by motorists. A completed, well-maintained road will significantly reduce accidents and improve emergency response times.

We further call upon all road users to adhere strictly to traffic laws, avoid reckless driving, and exercise extreme caution, especially on dangerous stretches of the road. Community members should also refrain from the dangerous practice of collecting fuel from any leaked or overturned tanker. Such actions pose serious risks of fire and explosion, endangering lives and property.

As part of our commitment to community welfare, we pledge to work with local authorities, health practitioners, and youth organization We appeal for community solidarity in supporting affected families through donations, counseling services, and other forms of assistance to help them rebuild their lives after this calamity.

May Almighty Allah forgive all shortcomings of the departed, comfort the grieving families, and grant our community strength, resilience, and peace as we navigate this difficult period together.

NIGERIAN YOUTH PARLIAMENT CALLS FOR URGENT ACTION AGAINST UNSTABLE NETWORKS AND RISING PHONE, DATA COST

The Nigerian Youth Parliament has expressed deep concern over the recent hike in phone call and mobile data prices, as well as the persistent issue of unstable telecommunications networks across the country. In a public statement delivered by the Speaker of the Parliament, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Idris Zakari, the body decried the negative impact of these developments on young Nigerians and called for immediate intervention by relevant authorities.

The hike has affected millions of students, professionals, and other citizens who rely heavily on affordable telecommunications for education, work, and access to essential information.

It is with great disappointment that we witness a situation where the very tools that empower us—tools that facilitate education, communication, business, and social connections—are becoming increasingly out of reach for the majority of our youth.

While the telecommunications sector plays a vital role in the national economy, the affordability and accessibility of its services must be prioritized to avoid widening the digital divide and marginalizing vulnerable populations.

Increasing prices disproportionately affect those already struggling to make ends meet. This is simply unacceptable.

In solidarity with ongoing efforts in the National Assembly, the Nigerian Youth Parliament called on the Federal Ministry of Communications and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to take immediate action in addressing the situation. The Parliament urged telecommunications companies to reconsider their pricing strategies and work towards providing stable, affordable services to all Nigerians—particularly the youth.

To further press for change, the Parliament consider the formation of a Special Committee tasked with engaging relevant stakeholders and advocating for a reversal of the recent hikes.

The committee members include:
• Hon. Japhet Kineze FCT – Chairman
• Hon. Chiamaka Anaiko Enugu West – Secretary
• Hon. Abbas Abubakar Song Adamawa Central – Member
• Hon. Suleiman Sahabi Niger East – Member
• Hon. Mercy Barnabas Taraba South – Member
• Hon. Akan Ekong AkwaIbom – Member
• Hon. Femi Ogunsola Opwyemi Oyo South – Member
- Hon. Victor Oluwaseun Ekiti Central - Member
- Hon. Hauwa Ibrahim Abubakar Kano North - Member

The committee will engage the NCC, the Ministry of Communications, and other key players in the telecommunications industry to inquire about the rationale behind the price increases and demand a more youth-friendly policy framework.

In conclusion, I call all Nigerians especially the youth to embrace unity and civic engagement, and join the Parliament in demanding fair and accessible communication systems.

We cannot afford to leave anyone behind in the digital age,” he said. “Our voices, together, can drive meaningful change.

Signed:
Rt. Hon. Aliyu Idris Zakari
