The NORTH-WEST EDC, Kano is one of the extended EDC to continue with the three newly created regional centres by the CBN, as an intervention measure to eradicate poverty, halt the increasing incidences of unemployment, promote job creation through new business start-ups and alleviate business failures by helping existing businesses to grow. Specifically, the EDC will facilitate the achievement of
the following outcomes:
• Develop entrepreneurial skills in Nigerians to successfully start, manage, diversify and expand business enterprises
• Provide easy access to start-up capital for successful participants, especially funds from commercial banks, micro finance banks, allied financial institutions, Non-Governmental Organizations and other development agencies, and
• Generate employment opportunities for Nigerians in-line with the Transformation Agenda of the Federal Government of Nigeria and the goal of National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (NEEDS)
The North-West EDC, Kano is operated by Development 11 Limited, the Implementing Agency (IA) for the entire region. The Centre is strategically set to become the centre of excellence for entrepreneurship development in Nigeria, and Africa at large. To accomplish our mandate, we will engage participants in a broad range of activities which includes, but not limited to, faculty-led training, internship opportunity at MSME of similar area of interest, mentoring, linkage to financial services, as well as business development services. These activities are designed to assist participants specifically, and Nigerians in general, to embrace micro, small and medium enterprises as an alternative to employment. The EDC adopts a goal- oriented approach towards developing and promoting competent and productive initiatives in the areas of small businesses. The Faculty-led training aspect of the programme is for a period of Six weeks. (6wks).The Curriculum includes the following:
• Introduction to Entrepreneurship
• Enterprise Development
• Leadership Development
• Human Resource Management
• Basic Business Management
• Business Law
• Technology And the Entrepreneur
• Business Development Services (Business Model & Business Plan)
At the core of the programme also is the internship session which involves the deployment of participants to related functional business areas for a first-hand practical business management experience for a specific period.
