What began as a promise at the WAVES Showcase has now become a reality.

Women beneficiaries of the WAVES II Project, supported by Ambassade de France au Nigéria in Kano State have been empowered with processing machines by the Kano State Ministry of Budget and Planning, strengthening livelihoods and reinforcing economic empowerment as a pathway to reducing vulnerability to Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

For the women, this support represents more than equipment, it is an appreciation of their resilience, and an also renewed opportunity to build more sustainable sources of income for their families.

From restarting businesses to keeping children in school and applying climate-smart farming techniques, beneficiaries are already turning training into transformation.

At Bridge Connect Africa, we believe lasting impact happens through collaboration, and we appreciate the Kano State Government, the Ministry of Budget and Planning, and all stakeholders working to create sustainable pathways for women’s economic empowerment.

7 out of the 7 Northwest States reached!

Bridge Connect Africa is proving that youth governance is no longer a side conversation through the Youth Leading Change Program.

Last week in Kano, we convened government actors, youth leaders, and development partners for a Youth Policy Dialogue Workshop focused on moving youth policy from paper to implementation.

The dialogue was held in collaboration with long-standing partners supporting the development and advancement of the Kano State Youth Development Bill and wider youth governance reforms. These partnerships continue to strengthen coordination and institutional alignment around youth policy in the state.

A key focus was the transition from the 1976 Youth Edict (created under military regime) to the proposed Kano State Youth Development Bill (2024), which replaces an outdated framework with a democratic and inclusive structure for youth participation and governance.

Key provisions of the bill include stronger institutional frameworks, a Youth Development Trust Fund, a Youth Parliament, and improved accountability mechanisms to support effective implementation.

Beyond the conversations, the dialogue reinforced urgent practical steps. Participants aligned on coordinated actions to strengthen engagement, improve policy tracking, and support ongoing efforts to advance the assent process of the bill.

At Bridge Connect Africa, we remain committed to building a Northwest where youth voices shape governance, policies reflect real community needs, and systems deliver measurable outcomes.

We appreciate Naijayouthfund for supporting this vision and the continued journey toward inclusive youth governance in Nigeria.

In Sokoto State, youth policy conversations are gradually moving beyond discussions into more coordinated engagement and implementation.

Through the Youth Leading Change Programme (YLCP), supported by the Nigeria Youth Futures Fund (Naijayouthfund ), in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development advocacy visits and a multi-stakeholder Youth Policy Dialogue brought together government institutions, civil society organizations, youth groups, and development actors to examine the current realities of youth development and policy implementation in the state.

The engagement highlighted important progress, including the domestication of the National Youth Policy in Sokoto State and growing government commitment toward youth development. Discussions also identified gaps in policy awareness, coordination, inclusion, and access to opportunities, particularly for rural youth and persons with disabilities.

The dialogue strengthened collaboration between government stakeholders, CSOs, and youth-led organizations, while creating space for practical recommendations on improving policy implementation and institutional coordination.

The engagement also highlighted the importance of ensuring that young people are actively involved in governance, accountability, and policy processes within their communities.

We appreciate the continued support of Naijayouthfund supporting youth-led engagement and strengthening inclusive policy conversations across Northern Nigeria.

What happens after Women Economic Empowerment policy is launched?

Following the launch of the Kano State WEE Policy, Bridge Connect convened stakeholders through the Post-Launch Stakeholder Engagement and Dissemination Forum held under the WAVES project supported by .

In collaboration with the Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs, Children, and People with Special Needs, we convened stakeholders from government, CSOs, community structures, and the private sector to strengthen commitment towards implementation of the Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy.

A major milestone from the forum was the presentation of simplified and Hausa-translated versions of the policy, expanding accessibility and ensuring that more women, community actors, and institutions can engage meaningfully with the policy at both state and grassroots levels.

Beyond dissemination, the engagement reinforced stakeholder accountability, clarified implementation roles, and strengthened coordination for sustainable action on women’s economic inclusion in Kano State.

Policy becomes impact when collaboration, accessibility, and local ownership come together to drive lasting change for women economic empowerment and at Bridge Connect, we continue to commit to that change.

In our continued effort to strengthen systems, improve accountability, and advance survivor-centered responses, Bridge Connect Africa, through the WAVES II Project supported by the Ambassade de France au Nigéria convened a two-day Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop in Kano State to strengthen GBV data reporting and dashboard management.

The training was delivered in partnership with the Federal Ministry of women affairs and Kano State Ministry of women affairs, children, and people with special needs.

The participants included government officials, CSOs, security agencies, and development partners in Kano including members of the state technical working group in GBV to build technical capacity on the use of the National GBV Dashboard and improve coordination in GBV response systems.

Beyond data entry, the workshop focused on promoting evidence-based decision-making, improving reporting accuracy, and strengthening institutional frameworks for addressing violence against women and girls.

As stakeholders continue to tackle underreporting and weak data utilization, this effort marks another important step toward ensuring that GBV data is not only collected, but effectively used to drive action, accountability, and policy reforms across Kano State.

Youth leadership is a critical driver of sustainable development. It requires more than enthusiasm. It demands structured investment in skills, systems, and opportunities that enable young people to lead effectively and deliver measurable impact.

Through the Youth Leading Change Programme at Bridge Connect, supported by the , this video demonstrates how targeted capacity strengthening is equipping young people to lead initiatives, influence outcomes, and contribute to community-level change.

Strategic investment in youth leadership yields long-term returns for communities, institutions, and development outcomes.

We must scale interventions that position young people as capable leaders and partners in development.
