Some photos of the last Dialogue session brought together parents of girls with disabilities, their teachers, government representatives, community leaders, and life skills coaches.

The conversation focused on the realities facing adolescent girls with disabilities, the importance of inclusive education, and creating safe spaces for their growth and development. It was inspiring to see different voices come together, share experiences, and commit to stronger support for these girls.

This engagement is part of the SABI WOMAN Project, implemented by Kanawa Educational Foundation for the Disabled in partnership with Sightsavers and UNICEF.

Together, we are building a more inclusive future where every girl has the opportunity to learn and grow.

Celebrating the International Day of person with disabilities.

We are proud to share a major milestone from the SABI–WOMAN Project, implemented by Kanawa Educational Foundation for the Disabled through Sightsavers with funding supportform UNICEF/FCDO.

After successfully completing a 6 days of intensive business education delivered through ITF, we have now moved to the most exciting phase of the project —economic empowerment.

A total of 350 women with disabilities have received startup kits made up of Unilever products, supported by GBF, to kick-start and strengthen their small businesses.
Each beneficiary received:

* Startup kits valued at ₦120,000
* *₦10,000 logistics support to take their products home
* Cash support per woman of ₦104,526 to grow her SME.

Throughout the engagement, all beneficiaries were well catered for with daily breakfast and lunch, ensuring a comfortable and inclusive learning environment.

The programme was hosted at the Sani Abacha Youth Centre, Kano, and brought together women with disabilities from within Kano State and beyond, reflecting the wide reach and inclusive nature of the initiative.

Beyond startup support, the women will continue to receive structured mentorship and business development support (BDSP), guided by RSP, to help them sustain and scale their businesses.

This is more than empowerment — it is dignity, inclusion, and opportunity in action.
We remain committed to building pathways for women with disabilities to thrive economically and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Together, we are creating lasting impact.

Today, we celebrate strength, courage, and ability.

As part of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2025, KEFD is set to empower 350 women with disabilities with the tools they need to build sustainable livelihoods.

For 6 days, these women will gain entrepreneurship skills, receive startup kits, and get tokens to begin their business journeys.

When women rise, communities rise.
This is inclusion in action.

Stakeholders Urge Kano Government to Establish Disability Commission

The Vulnerable People Support and Development Initiative (V-PeSDI) and other key stakeholders have expressed concern over the Kano State Government’s delay in fulfilling its promise to establish a Commission for Persons with Disabilities.

The call was made during a stakeholders’ engagement meeting themed "Strengthening Inclusive Support Systems for Vulnerable Populations and Persons with Disabilities in Kano State." The event was organized by V-PeSDI with support from the Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation and the Kanawa Educational Foundation for the Disabled.

In his opening remarks, Aftahana Dahiru Sarina, Deputy Coordinator of V-PeSDI, emphasized the critical role persons with disabilities play in promoting peace and stability, which has earned the state both national and international recognition.

"Despite various advocacy efforts, we commend the establishment of the Department for People with Disabilities under the Ministry of Women Affairs, Children, and the Disabled. However, we urge Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf to fulfill his campaign promise of setting up a full-fledged Disability Commission," Sarina said. "Such a commission remains the only sustainable solution to the numerous challenges faced by persons with disabilities in the state."

Adding his voice, Malam Abdulrazak Ado Zango, a visually impaired advocate, highlighted that the legal framework for the commission had been developed under the previous administration, aligning with the National Policy for Persons with Disabilities.

Also speaking, Malam AbdulRahman Uba Daushe, Chairman of the Spinal Cord Injury Association of Nigeria (Kano State Chapter), stressed the urgent need for government intervention, especially in addressing the persistent health and financial challenges faced by people with spinal cord injuries.

Dr. Musa Abdullahi Sufi noted that while the government plays a key role in improving citizens' lives, a more strategic and systematic approach to advocacy is needed to ensure the actual implementation of the commission.

The engagement brought together over 30 organizations from across Kano State, united in their advocacy for the rights of vulnerable groups and persons with disabilities. The participants resolved to sustain pressure and awareness campaigns until the commission becomes a reality.

Last Month, KEFD supported Sign Bridge Academy as they rolled out a pilot sign language class for essential professionals — including the police, FRSC, medical doctors, and judiciary officers. 👏

Big shoutout to the amazing **SBA team** for leading this effort and to all the professionals who showed up with open minds and a willingness to learn. This kind of training is a powerful step toward better communication and inclusion for the Deaf community. 🧏‍♂️💬

At KEFD, we remain committed to supporting more of these impactful initiatives — this is just the beginning.
