NIGERIA POLICE FORCE NABS AND REPATRIATES ESCAPED FRAUD CONVICT TO TURKEY

The Nigeria Police Force, through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja, has successfully repatriated a 61-year-old Turkish national, Acar Huseyin, to the Republic of Turkey to face his outstanding prison sentence.

Huseyin, who was convicted for fraud by the Istanbul Anadolu High Criminal Court earlier this year, fled Turkey shortly after judgment in an attempt to evade serving a sentence of 14 years, 8 months, and 10 days. He subsequently travelled through the Middle East into Nigeria.

In July 2025, INTERPOL NCB Ankara published a Red Notice, requesting member countries to locate and arrest the fugitive. Acting on this request, INTERPOL NCB Abuja initiated discreet intelligence-led operations which led to his arrest in Abuja.

Following the completion of the necessary documentation and in collaboration with relevant international partners, the fugitive has been successfully repatriated to Istanbul to commence his sentence.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has commended the INTERPOL unit for its professionalism and reaffirmed that Nigeria will not serve as a refuge for any fugitive or escaped convict. He emphasised the NPF’s continued commitment to honouring international obligations, strengthening police-to-police cooperation, and supporting global efforts against transnational crime.

PRESS RELEASE: House Breaking By Armed Security Operatives;
✓ Ekiti State Commissioner of Police Orders discrete investigation
✓ Pledges justice, calls for calm.

The Ekiti Police Command is not unaware of the video circulating on the social media where some armed security personnel were seen breaking into an apartment somewhere still unknown in Ado-Ekiti. It was alleged in the post that Operation Flush Unit, which is a Joint Task Force of some security agencies, was responsible for the act.

The Ekiti State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the Police is not part of the Operation Flush Unit as being alleged by a section of the public. The Police does not operate any unit called Operation Flush.

Meanwhile, the Command frowns at the incident and the Commissioner of Police, CP JOSEPH ERIBO, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident with the view to unraveling the facts and ensuring justice, while imploring anyone with additional and useful information, particularly the victim(s), to come forward to assist the Police in the investigation process.

The Command will continue to support the rule of law, respect the rights of citizens and ensure maximum security for the lives and property of the good people of Ekiti State.
