GARKO ORPHANS FOUNDATION STRATEGIC ENGAGEMENT MEETING REPORT

Date: Tuesday, 30 June 2026

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu.

On Tuesday, 30 June 2026, Garko Orphans Foundation (GOF) was represented at a special Strategic Engagement Meeting organized by the Kano State Zakkat and Hubsi Commission in collaboration with partner organizations.

The meeting focused on the use of Waqf as a sustainable mechanism for financing healthcare services for orphans and other vulnerable members of society.

Objectives of the Meeting

The meeting aimed to:

1. Present and validate the progress and impact of the Waqf for Healthcare Initiative.
2. Gather direct feedback from beneficiaries and identify gaps in healthcare service delivery.
3. Present a compelling investment case for sustainable healthcare financing through the Waqf model.

Overview of the Programme

The Waqf for Healthcare Initiative is a newly introduced programme of the Kano State Zakat and Hubsi Commission and is currently at the pilot stage. The initiative seeks to utilize Zakkat and Waqf funds to register eligible vulnerable individuals with the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KCHIMA), enabling them to access quality healthcare services at accredited hospitals.

GOF's Existing Healthcare Initiative

Alhamdulillah, Garko Orphans Foundation has been implementing a similar healthcare programme for approximately four years. Through this initiative, the Foundation has successfully provided healthcare support to orphans and their widowed mothers.

Today, virtually all vulnerable orphans and widowed mothers in Garko Ward who are unable to afford healthcare are enrolled under the GOF Healthcare Scheme. Through this programme, GOF ensures that they receive access to essential healthcare services whenever needed.

Although GOF was not given the opportunity to formally present its healthcare support programme during the meeting, the Foundation's representative briefly introduced the initiative during the question-and-answer session. This generated significant interest and attracted considerable attention from participants, many of whom expressed appreciation for GOF's model and its achievements.

Expected Benefits to Garko Orphans Foundation

Participation in the meeting is expected to provide several strategic benefits to GOF, including:

1. The opportunity to register vulnerable individuals with critical health conditions under KCHIMA at an annual premium of ₦12,000 per beneficiary, enabling them to access free healthcare services.
2. Official registration with the Kano State Zakkat and Hubsi Commission, paving the way for strategic partnerships in humanitarian and social welfare programmes.
3. Registration with KONOOZ Investment LTD to invest in Shariah-compliant ventures, generating halal returns that will contribute to the long-term sustainability of orphan sponsorship and welfare programmes.
4. Access to additional opportunities for collaboration, resource mobilization, and sustainable development initiatives that will further strengthen GOF's capacity to serve orphans, widows, and other vulnerable members of the community.

Conclusion

The meeting provided an important platform for networking, collaboration, and learning. It also highlighted the relevance and success of GOF's healthcare programme, positioning the Foundation as a valuable stakeholder in ongoing efforts to improve access to healthcare through sustainable Islamic social finance mechanisms.

Update
Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh, Dear Esteemed Members,

Alhamdulillah, we are delighted to share a significant milestone in the growth of our foundation.

Through the generosity of the *late Alhaji Yunusa Sa'ad* (father of our Foundation's Financial Secretary), a plot of land located near our current rented temporary office has been donated to the foundation. We pray that Allah (SWT) forgives his shortcomings, grants him Al-Jannatul Firdaus, and abundantly rewards his family for this noble act. Ameen.

We are also pleased to inform you that the architectural drawings and building plans for the proposed foundation office have been completed. We are now ready to begin the construction phase, In Sha Allah.

This project belongs to all of us, and its success depends on our collective support. We therefore humbly appeal to every member, friends, well-wishers, and philanthropists to contribute financially towards the construction of our this office.

No donation is too small. Every contribution will bring us one step closer to realizing this dream and creating a lasting legacy that will benefit generations to come.

May Allah (SWT) accept your donations as Sadaqah Jariyah, bless your wealth, and reward you abundantly. Ameen.
