FEC approves $2.9bn rail projects for Lagos, Kano, Kaduna – Oyedele

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, on Thursday said that the Federal Executive Council, FEC, has approved the award of contracts for three major rail projects aimed at boosting infrastructure, productivity and economic growth across key urban centres.

Oyedele disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents after the 5th council meeting, presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said the projects, covering Lagos, Kano and Kaduna, are designed to support the federal government’s broader development agenda and improve the quality of life for citizens.

According to him: “We know that for economic development, you need infrastructure that works, one that enhances productivity and growth, and also improves the quality of life of the people.”

Oyedele mentioned the approved projects to include Phase 1A of the Lagos Green Line rail, the Kano State Metro City rail project, and the Kaduna State light rail system.

He described the three cities as critical economic hubs where targeted investments can yield outsized impact.

“You would agree that these three cities are very important and strategic. All cities are important, but these are places where 10 per cent effort can yield up to 90 per cent results,” he stated.

The minister, who joined the cabinet last week after the resignation of Wale Edun, disclosed that the projects will be financed through the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), acting on behalf of the federal government, with provisions for counterpart funding arrangements.

In total, Oyedele said the three rail projects are valued at approximately $2.99 billion.

“These projects will be sponsored by MOFI on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, with some counterpart funding. Altogether, they will cost about $2.99 billion,” he said.

He added that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to prioritising infrastructure as a catalyst for inclusive economic growth and urban mobility.

Gwamnatin Shugaba Bola Ahmed Tinubu ta sanar da shirin fara aikin gina babban rumbun samar da wutar lantarki ta hanyar hasken rana (solar minigrid) mai ƙarfin Megawatt biyu (2MW) a Jami’ar Kimiyya da Fasaha ta Aliko Dangote (ADUST) da ke Wudil, a Jihar Kano.

Wannan aiki yana ɗaya daga cikin shirye-shiryen inganta wutar lantarki a manyan makarantun ƙasar nan ƙarƙashin manufar "Renewed Hope" ta Shugaba Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Mataimakin Rajistar jami’ar a ɓangaren yaɗa labarai, Malam Abdullahi Datti Abdullahi, ne ya bayyana hakan a cikin wata sanarwa da ya fitar ranar Laraba. Sanarwar ta nuna cewa Shugaban Hukumar Makamashi ta Ƙasa (ECN), Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, ne ya bayar da wannan labari yayin da yake karɓar baƙuncin Shugaban Jami’ar ADUST, Farfesa Musa Tukur Yakasai, a ofishinsa da ke Abuja.

An bayyana cewa Ma’aikatar Kimiyya da Fasaha ta Tarayya ta riga ta ba da kwangilar aikin akan kuɗi har naira biliyan uku da ɗigo takwas (₦3.8 billion). Ana sa ran kammala aikin cikin wata uku kacal domin fara amfanar ɗalibai da malaman makarantar.

Shugaban na ECN, wanda tsohon ɗalibin jami’ar ne, ya bayyana cewa yayin da mafi yawan jami’o’in ƙasar nan ke samun tagomashin Megawatt guda, ita ADUST za a ba ta Megawatt biyu ne saboda girma da kuma buƙatar makarantar.

Dr. Abdullahi ya ƙara da cewa:
"Wannan shiri na sanya hasken rana ba kawai a jami’o’i ya tsaya ba, ya shafi asibitoci da yankunan karkara a duk faɗin jihohin Najeriya domin rage radadin rashin wuta."

Haka kuma, ya sanar da cewa jami’ar za ta sake samun ƙarin fitulun kan hanya (streetlights) guda 200, baya ga guda 200 da aka riga aka kafa musu a kwanakin baya.

A nasa ɓangaren, Shugaban Jami’ar ADUST, Farfesa Yakasai, ya jinjina wa Dr. Abdullahi kan yadda yake kishin tsohuwar makarantarsa. Ya bayyana cewa waɗannan ayyuka za su taimaka kwarai wajen inganta tsaro a cikin jami'ar da kuma sauƙaƙa gudanar da bincike a dakunan gwaje-gwaje (laboratories).

Farfesa Yakasai ya kuma yaba wa Shugaban na ECN kan gudunmawar da ya bayar wajen karɓar baƙuncin wasannin share-fage na NUGA na shekarar 2025 da jami’ar ta yi. Daga nan sai ya buƙaci ƙarin haɗin gwiwa wajen kafa babban dakin binciken makamashi (energy laboratory) a jami’ar.

Wannan aiki na zuwa ne daidai lokacin da Gwamnatin Tarayya ta ƙara kaimi wajen samar da madadin wutar lantarki ga manyan cibiyoyi, inda kwanan nan aka ƙaddamar da makamancinsa mai ƙarfin Megawatt 7.1 a Jami’ar Bayero ta Kano (BUK).
