Communique issued at the end of the Joint Zoom meeting of National Officials of the Northwest Extraction and State Coordinators of The Coalition of Northern Group Students Wing, Northwest Zone.
10th September, 2024.
Preamble:
The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) Student Wing is a prominent umbrella body representing all students from the Northern region, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The group has been a powerful voice for student emancipation and advocacy across the nation, particularly in the Northern region. Through its efforts, the student wing aims to address issues affecting students and to contribute positively to the socio-political landscape of the region and the country at large.
Sympathy for the CNG Student Wing Northeast Zone, Especially Borno State:
The house expressed deep sympathy and concern for the leadership of the CNG Student Wing Northeast Zone, particularly for those from Borno State, who have been severely affected by the recent devastating floods. The floods have displaced thousands of people, leading to the destruction of properties worth billions of naira. This disaster has not only caused immense physical and financial losses but also exacerbated the already challenging living conditions in the region. The house acknowledged the resilience of the people affected by the floods and called on both government and non-governmental organizations to provide urgent relief and support to help rebuild the affected communities.
Appreciation to the Chairman of the Council of Board of Trustees, Alhaji Nastura Ashir Sheriff, and Leadership of the Mainstream Body under Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi:
The house extended its profound gratitude to Alhaji Nastura Ashir Sheriff, Chairman of the Council of Board of Trustees, and to the leadership of the CNG Mainstream body under Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, for their unwavering support and guidance. These leaders have been instrumental in steering the student wing and ensuring that the voices of Northern students are heard at both regional and national levels. Their dedication to the cause of Northern Nigeria and their continuous efforts to uplift the student community have not gone unnoticed. The house recognized their leadership as a beacon of hope and inspiration for the youth of the region and commended their commitment to the development and empowerment of Northern Nigeria.
Condemnation of the Federal Government’s Inaction on Insecurity in the North:
The house unequivocally condemned the perceived indifference and lack of action by President Tinubu's administration in addressing the escalating insecurity in the Northern region. The ongoing violence, kidnappings, and other forms of insecurity have created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty, particularly in Northern communities. The house expressed frustration with the government's failure to prioritize the safety and well-being of its citizens, particularly students who are vulnerable to these security challenges. The members of the meeting called for immediate and decisive action from the federal government to address the insecurity that is not only threatening lives and properties but also disrupting education and other essential activities in the region.
Call to President Tinubu to Take Action on Insecurity and Ensure Safe Campuses:
In light of the increasing insecurity, the house urged President Tinubu to rise to the occasion and meet the expectations of the Nigerian people by deploying all necessary machinery to curb the menace of insecurity. The house emphasized the importance of ensuring that campuses across the North are safe for students to continue their education without fear. The members of the meeting stressed that the future of the region and the country at large depends on the safety and education of its youth. Therefore, it is imperative that the government takes immediate and effective measures to secure educational institutions and protect students from any form of harm.
Proposal for a Career Guidance Program for Secondary Students Across the Zone:
Recognizing the importance of guiding the younger generation in making informed career choices, the house proposed the establishment of a comprehensive career guidance program for secondary school students across the Northwest Zone. This program aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about their future careers. By providing students with exposure to various career options, the program will help bridge the gap between education and the job market, thereby reducing unemployment and underemployment among youths. The house believes that such an initiative will inspire and motivate students to pursue careers that align with their interests and the needs of society.
Proposal for a Joint Meeting between the CNG Student Wing and All Student Union Presidents Across the States:
The house also proposed organizing a joint meeting between the CNG Student Wing and all Student Union Presidents from various states within the zone. This meeting is envisioned as a platform for discussing potential collaborations and strengthening ties between student bodies across the Northern region. The house believes that by fostering unity and collaboration among students, they can collectively address common challenges and advocate more effectively for the rights and interests of students. The joint meeting would also provide an opportunity for sharing ideas, resources, and strategies that can contribute to the overall development of the student community and the Northern region.
