Brief speech of president Kalki Lapan Unity Foundation for Peace and Development.
Today marks a significant milestone in the life of our community—and it is all thanks to the power of unity. None of this would have been possible without the collective spirit and dedication of our people. The prayer team has guided this journey from the start, and we’ve now begun digging the foundation trench for our big dream.
Today 5th July 2025, we invite all sons and daughters of Lapan to join us for the grand groundbreaking ceremony for our e-library project and a major tree-planting campaign. The tree planting will begin from Popandi to Kerel Boh, with the Chairperson Hajiya Fatima Binta Bello (Jakadiyan Kaltungo, Gado da Masun Filiaya) and Baba M. I. Jimeta leading the ceremonial foundation laying and first tree planting.
We are encouraging every Lapan son and daughter to plant at least one tree in their name. If you cannot attend in person, kindly ask a family member to plant a tree on your behalf. Every prominent individual from Lapan should have a tree planted in their honor. Please note that this initiative is distinct from the committee’s distribution formula and applies only to trees planted along the main road.
In addition to the e-library, we are pleased to announce that we have declared a State of Emergency on Education in Lapan. We are starting from the grassroots level. Our goal is to ensure that every child can read fluently before entering Primary Four, and that by graduation from primary school, they are fully literate and able to write confidently. This urgent initiative is in response to a troubling reality: many primary school pupils in our community cannot read or write. Without this foundation, they cannot succeed in secondary school or beyond. To begin tackling this, we have recruited three volunteer tutors to launch a six-month pilot program in Lapan. After the pilot phase, they will receive a small stipend, and the program will then be extended to the three major villages of Lapan.
For secondary school students, we plan to organize quiz and debate competitions focused on science subjects to strengthen their academic foundation. And for students who excel but lack the means to pursue higher education, we are committed to offering partial scholarships to show our support.
The upcoming e-library will serve as a training center for WAEC, NECO, JAMB, and also host entrepreneurship programs. It will also function as a town hall meeting space for community stakeholders and other gatherings. The Education Department will oversee all these efforts. We have a monumental task ahead of us, and we are calling on all well-meaning Lapanians—at home and in the diaspora—to support this vision. Especially to our youth at home, we need your help in labor and logistics. Let us unite to make Lapan great. WITH FAITH IN GOD, WE BELIEVE WE CAN ACHIEVE THIS NOBLE DREAM.
Have a blissful and purposeful day.
Yours sincerely,
Yone Nehemiah
