Most relapses announce themselves long before they happen.

They appear in isolation, secrecy, resentment, overconfidence, and neglect of healthy routines.

Recovery is not only about avoiding what harmed you. It is also about recognising what quietly leads you back there.

Pay attention to the warning signs.

Every day of recovery is a reminder that your past may shape your story, but it does not define your future.

In celebration of Children’s Day, Life Challenge Nigeria hosted the first edition of its Families in Recovery Forum. The event brought together individuals in recovery, families, and practitioners united by the belief that recovery is strengthened through understanding, compassion, and support.

During the Forum, stories were shared, milestones celebrated, and relationships strengthened through honest conversations and reflection. We were encouraged by the courage of those in recovery and by the families who continue to stand by their loved ones with patience and care.

One of the highlights of the event was the launch of Life Challenge Nigeria Resource Hub, part of our commitment to strengthening recovery support systems across Nigeria. We look forward to continuing these conversations, strengthening families, and supporting lasting recovery within our communities.

Perfect children do not exist, and neither do perfect parents.

One of the greatest gifts we can give children is the freedom to make mistakes without feeling that they have failed as people. Too much pressure to be the best, get everything right, or live up to other people's expectations can leave children anxious, discouraged, and afraid to ask for help when they need it most.

Children grow stronger when they learn that mistakes are part of life, not evidence of their worth. They build confidence when they are encouraged to keep trying, even after setbacks. They make better choices when they know they are loved and accepted, not because they are perfect, but because they are valued.

As we celebrate Children's Day, may we raise children who are not afraid of failure, who can learn from their mistakes, and who know that they are enough.

Happy Children’s Day!

It is encouraging to see participants applying what they have learned in real-life situations.

One participant recently shared how the learning experience helped him encourage a young man in recovery who was struggling after a difficult setback.

As they talked, he repeatedly said:

"What's the point? I've already messed everything up."

Drawing on what he had learned, the participant recognised that the issue was not only the setback itself, but also the unhelpful beliefs that had begun to shape the way he viewed himself and his future.

Rather than focusing solely on what had gone wrong, they reflected together on the progress that had already been made, the challenges that had been overcome, and the support that remained available to him.

Gradually, his perspective began to change. He started to see that one setback did not erase months of progress, and that recovery is not about perfection but about continuing to move forward, learning from mistakes, and taking the next positive step.

Reflecting on the experience, the participant said:

"Before attending the course, I'm not sure I would have known how to respond. I would probably have focused only on the setback itself. The course helped me recognise the thinking behind what he was saying and gave me practical ways to encourage him to look at the situation differently. By the end of the conversation, he seemed more able to recognise that his progress still mattered and that there were good reasons to keep moving forward."

Stories like these show how a single conversation, guided by understanding and encouragement, can help someone see their situation differently and take another step forward. Every conversation that helps someone challenge unhelpful beliefs and rediscover hope can become an important step on the road to recovery.

Every life transformed begins with hope, support, and the opportunity to start again.

It's a new week filled with hope and fresh opportunities.

Across Nigeria, many individuals, families, and communities are living with the impact of substance use and other addictive behaviours. Recovery is possible, and the right support can make all the difference.

That's why we continue to train and support practitioners so they can better help people in recovery and those taking their first steps towards change.

We were encouraged by the conversations, shared experiences, and commitment of participants during last week's training. As practitioners continue to serve their communities, more people will have the opportunity to find hope, healing, and a new beginning.

We would like to sincerely thank everyone who reached out to volunteer for our upcoming community intervention in Kaduna.

The level of interest we received was both encouraging and humbling. It reflects a growing awareness of how important it is to address addiction challenges within our communities.

Because of the sensitive nature of addiction recovery support and the coordination required to responsibly work with individuals and families, we are only able to engage a small, carefully coordinated team for this phase of the intervention.

While we cannot accommodate everyone at this time, we are deeply encouraged by the willingness many people have shown to stand with individuals and families affected by addiction.

For those we could not engage in this phase, please know that your interest is sincerely appreciated. We truly value the encouragement and trust we continue to receive around this work.

At first glance, you see a woman carrying clothes to sell. But she carries so much more. Responsibility, determination, and the hope of providing for her family.

Across Nigeria, many women wake up every day with this same quiet strength. They step out early, work tirelessly, and keep moving forward, doing what they can to support their families and build a better future.

Their efforts may not always make the headlines, but their impact is felt in homes, markets, and communities every single day.

This is why the theme for International Women’s Day 2026, , matters. When women are supported with opportunities, respect, and the chance to thrive, everyone gains.

Today, we celebrate women like her. Women whose resilience keeps life moving forward.

Happy International Women’s Day from all of us at Life Challenge Nigeria.
