Today was great @ Imperial School, Kudende, Kaduna as our team Children and Young People Living for Peace (CYPLP) engaged through storytelling with students of the school on the topic - "Before You ".
It was really interactive as listened carefully to the story of a young of 18 years after secondary , deceived by an adult who pretended to be her former school mate through the , using the real pictures of her school mate in disguised. The Man used to cloned his voice exactly like that of her former and portrayed she's now residing abroad, with good life.
Desirous for greener pastures, the girl was introduced to a group of people that can help facilitate her trip and they offered to help her either through sea or route. She opted going through desert but regretted her life in the midst of "no return" shortly after the journey began. Desert became a very long journey with great taste for water and food. That urine is used to quenching tastiness. It was really a horrible situation and she cried and cried without help.
On arrival, she was handed over to a boss-lady and started work. Work that men and at times up to 10 different men will meet with her for a pay. But the pay doesn't gets to her than to the boss-lady only.
One day she felt sick and doctor diagnosed her with . One day her health got worst and she couldn't afford going to hospital, and was found dead later with six month old pregnancy. So that was how she ended up her life in search of greener pastures through unsafe ways. Questions were asked by students and answers given clearly.
We then exposed safe ways students like them can take when they want to migrate for greener pastures abroad and why it matters most now and in future. Students were empowered to share learnings with peers after the program.
