Eighteen years ago, a vision was born out of a profound necessity. Empowering Women for Excellence Initiative (EWEI) was founded by Safiya Ibn Garba with a clear and unwavering mission: to provide multi-sectoral intervention towards the empowerment of women and girls.
Today, as we mark our 18th Anniversary, we do not just look back at a milestone on a calendar; we celebrate a journey of courage, transformation, and relentless advocacy.
Across our nation, millions of women and girls continue to face steep hurdles to education, safety, leadership, and economic independence. Yet, every single day, we witness courage rising in communities where women and girls refuse to give up. They are the heart of our story. EWEI has proudly stood beside them, supporting survivors, strengthening leaders, and opening doors to opportunity that were once firmly shut.
Since 2008, our collective efforts have transformed lives and inspired enduring change in spaces where hope was once limited. Together with our partners, communities, and supporters, we have worked tirelessly across grassroots communities and vital institutions to:
- Prevent and respond to violence against women and girls, ensuring safety and dignity.
- Promote girlsโ€™ education and leadership, cultivating the next generation of changemakers.
- Strengthen womenโ€™s participation in governance, amplifying their voices where decisions are made.
- Advance gender equality and social justice, breaking down biased structures.
- Build resilient communities capable of sustaining progress and protecting the vulnerable.

Why does our work matter so deeply? Because women and girls are not just recipient of development; they are the ultimate drivers of change. We have seen firsthand that when women are educated, protected, and empowered, families become stronger, communities become safer, economies grow, and nations truly prosper.
As we enter our adulthood as an organisation, our commitment is stronger than ever. Thank you to everyone who has walked this 18-year journey with us, our resilient program participants, dedicated staff, passionate volunteers, and invaluable partners.
The future belongs to empowered women, and EWEI will continue to pave the way for excellence, equity, and justice for generations to come.
Happy 18th Anniversary to EWEI!

Our planet is sending us a clear message. We see it in the record heat, the wild weather, and the shrinking glaciers. The threat is no longer far away it is right here.

But we are not helpless. A beautiful movement is growing. Communities are bringing nature back to life. Young leaders are speaking up. Clean energy is changing our world for the better. Solutions are already here, building a brighter tomorrow.

At EWEI, World Environment Day reminds us that it is not too late to change our path. The Earth is talking to us. How will we answer? When we care for the Earth, we care for our health, our neighbours, and our future. Happy

Every single child deserves a safe life, a good education, and a chance to stand tall. When schools and children are attacked, it breaks our hearts and violates their rights.

At EWEI, we say: enough is enough. We demand absolutely zero violence against school children. Kids need safe places to learn, free from fear, and they need real support to heal from trauma. As we mark this day, our message is simple: no child should ever be left behind. Bring home the missing children, punish those who do wrong, and protect every Nigerian child.

It is time to talk openly about periods. Menstrual health is not just a womenโ€™s issue; it is a human rights issue. When we ignore it, girls miss school and women face unfair treatment.

On this , we are standing up to change the narrative. We want a world where having a period doesn't stop a girl from chasing her dreams. Through education, we can wipe out the stigma and replace shame with pride and support.

Happy Children's Day to all children in Nigeria and around the world. Sadly, we are celebrating this year with heavy hearts. Recent attacks and kidnappings of students and teachers in Oyo and Borno states show that our country's security problems are getting worse.

Today should be a day of pure joy for our children. Instead, it is a reminder of a crisis. From Oyo to Borno, and Kebbi to Benue, terrorists are targeting schools. They are taking children hostage and stealing their peace.

In May 2026 alone, dozens of children and teachers were taken from their classrooms in Oyo and Borno. Tragically, a teacher named Michael Oyedokun was unalived. These painful events follow a long line of school attacks from Kebbi last year, all the way back to Kuriga, Chibok, and Dapchi. It feels like going to school has become dangerous, especially in quiet, rural areas where schools are easy targets for bandits.

Education is a right that belongs to every single child. Fear should never keep a child out of the classroom.

We are calling on government to do its duty. The Safe School Initiative must become a reality, not just a plan on paper. Every school, no matter how remote, must be a fortress of safety.

Today, we send our love and prayers to every student and teacher still held in the bush. We stand with your families, and we will keep demanding your safe return.

Happy Africa Day 2026! ๐ŸŒโค๏ธ For us at Kabilun Africa Think Tank (KATT), this day is a beautiful reminder of our shared history, our strength, and our endless potential.

At KATT, we are dedicated to bringing together African thinkers of all ages, whether they live on the continent or abroad. We believe in talking about our challenges in a way that makes sense for us, so we can find local answers to our own problems.

Today, we honour the past and work hand-in-hand to protect our future. Let's build the Africa we deserve!

Bringing life into the world should not cause lifelong pain. Yet, 500,000 girls and women globally live with a devastating childbirth injury called obstetric fistula. It causes deep, life-altering damage to a woman's body and her self-esteem.

Many people think this only happens to poor or uneducated women, but without proper medical care during birth, any woman can suffer from it. Tragically, many women who have this injury are hiding in silence. They do not know that help exists, so they rarely look for a cure.

Every year on May 23, the world observes the International Day to End Obstetric Fistula. The most important thing to know is that this condition can be completely prevented and cured! EWEI believes that every woman deserves safe healthcare. Let's demand a world where no mother has to suffer from this injury.
