As we commemorate International Girls in ICT Day today, we are reminded that every girl regardless of her background or where she comes from deserves access to digital skills and opportunities to thrive.

At Smart Aid Initiative, we are committed to empowering girls through education and technology, creating inclusive spaces where they can learn, explore, and grow with confidence.

Aligned with this year’s theme, “AI for Development: Girls Shaping the Digital Future,” we believe that when girls are equipped with the right tools, they don’t just adapt to the future but rather they lead it.

We have seen firsthand what happens when girls are empowered with the right support. Curiosity turns into innovation. Ideas turn into solutions potential turns into impact.

As we celebrate today, we remain committed to building safe, inclusive spaces where girls can grow their skills, find their voices, and unlock new possibilities, not just for themselves but for their communities and beyond.

This World Book Day, we are embracing the theme “Go All In: If you're into it, read into it” by celebrating the power of reading to spark curiosity and build confidence in young people.

At Smart Aid Initiative, we believe every child especially girls deserves access to safe, inclusive learning spaces where they can discover their voice and explore their potential. Because every page turned is a step toward a brighter future.

Our Programs Lead, Sadiq Ba’aba, and Communications Lead, Yasmin Mohammed took part in a high level Dialogue organized by YouthHubAfrica, focused on strengthening citizens’ engagement and promoting gender responsive budgeting in Kaduna State’s education sector.

The conversation was engaging and insightful, bringing together voices from government, civil society, and education advocates who all share a common goal ensuring education funding is more transparent, inclusive, and truly reflective of the needs of communities, especially girls and underserved groups.

It was a strong reminder that real change doesn’t just happen it takes effort, honest conversations, and people willing to work together. From discussions around education funding and accountability to hearing directly from young people, especially girls, about their experiences and needs, the dialogue made one thing clear: progress is a shared responsibility. When people come together, listen, and commit to taking action, we get closer to building an education system that is inclusive, responsive, and truly works for everyone.

On World Creativity & Innovation Day, we celebrate the power of ideas and innovation to drive meaningful change in our communities. Creativity is not just about new concepts, but about developing practical solutions that open doors for young people especially girls to learn, grow, and access real, life changing opportunities. Every day, we see how access to education and inclusive opportunities can unlock potential, build confidence, and inspire young people to shape their own futures.

We received the Reserved Seats Advocacy Coalition Nigeria (RESAC Nigeria), under the Open Knowledge Development Initiative (OKDI), on Friday, 17th April 2026 in our office, for an impactful advocacy visit.

The engagement is part of RESAC Nigeria’s ongoing state-level efforts to promote the Reserved Seats for Women Bill- an important step toward increasing women’s representation in governance and addressing systemic barriers that limit their participation in decision-making processes.

Our Executive Director, Fareed Ibrahim, received the delegation and expressed strong support for the initiative, emphasizing that inclusive governance is important and essential for sustainable development.

At Smart Aid Initiative, we reaffirmed our commitment to collaborate, support, and advocate for the successful passage of this bill. We believe it will create a transformative pathway for more inclusive and representative leadership in Nigeria.
