Centre for Water and Environment Development (CWED)

Centre for Water and Environment Development (CWED) CWED committed to sustainable Development and the management of water and environment.

Centre for Water and Environment Development (CWED) was founded in 1998 by an independent research team which was primarily dedicated to Sustainable Water and Environmental Resources Development, with its headquarters in Kaduna State, Nigeria. It is registered as a non-governmental organization with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) since 2008. The Centre for Water and Environment Development

was established with the conviction that the environment and water resources are essential to human livelihood and sustainable development. The environment and water resources are two of the most essential resources for life and have a reciprocal relationship. The terrestrial and aquatic life requires good quality water in sufficient quantities for survival and productivity while the environment provides services that maintain water resources in a useable state for all sectors. However, the continuous degradation of the environment and water resources which is most often associated with the impacts of human activities and other related factors has lead to further decline of the living standards of a vast majority of the population especially in the developing world. The centre therefore seeks to address these problems amidst other numerous challenges.

🌍 Happy World Humanitarian Day!

Today, we celebrate the spirit of humanity not only through big interventions, but also through the lasting relationships and positive changes created in communities.

This morning, CWED received a beautiful and unexpected gift from a beneficiary of our 2021 CWED Green Project fresh guavas grown through the impact of our initiative. 🍈

Sir, your thoughtful gesture, is a powerful reminder that the seeds we plant today can continue to bear fruit for years to come.

For us at CWED, this is what humanitarian work is about: serving communities, empowering people, caring for the environment, and building relationships that go beyond a project cycle.

Thank you for remembering CWED and for sharing the fruits of your harvest with us. Your gift truly made our morning special! 🥰

Happy World Humanitarian Day 2026!
Here’s to everyone working quietly and consistently to make communities healthier, greener, stronger, and more resilient.

🌳 CWED Joins the Flag-Off of 5,000 Tree Seedlings in Kaduna

On Tuesday, 18 August 2026, the Centre for Water and Environment Development (CWED) joined stakeholders at the launching and flag-off ceremony for the distribution of 5,000 tree seedlings, organized by the Agriculture, Sustainable Land Use, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Restoration Technical Working Group (TWG) of the Kaduna Climate Change Accountability Mechanism (KADCCAM).
🌱 “Plant Trees Today, Get Clean Air Tomorrow.”
This important initiative promotes tree planting as a practical climate action for restoring ecosystems, improving environmental sustainability, reducing the impacts of climate change, and building more resilient communities.
CWED is proud to be among the beneficiaries, having been drivers of community driven tree planting initiative, and looks forward to playing its part in turning this initiative into meaningful action across communities.
Every tree planted today is an investment in cleaner air, healthier communities and a greener future. 🌍💚
Let’s plant. Let’s protect. Let’s restore.

Every Water Source Tells a Story

Behind every well is a community. Behind every drop of water is a family, a farmer, a mother, a child, and future that depends on safe and reliable water.

At the Centre for Water and Environment Development (CWED), we believe that understanding the condition of water sources is the first step towards building resilient WASH systems. Through field assessments, community engagement, we identify challenges, promote safe water and hygiene practices, and work with communities to develop sustainable solutions.

This community well serves many households, but it also highlights critical WASH gap, e.i protecting water sources from contamination, ensuring regular maintenance, and investing in improved infrastructure for long-term water security.

Together, we can transform every water source into a source of health, hope, and opportunity.

Safe water is not a privilege it is a fundamental right.

🌿 CWED Oganic Demonstration Farm Second Harvest 🌱

Another milestone achieved! CWED is excited to announce the second harvest from our Demonstration Farm, featuring fresh moringa and spinach cultivated using climate-smart and sustainable farming practices.

This harvest reflects our commitment to promoting food security, improved nutrition, and sustainable livelihoods through practical agricultural demonstrations that communities can easily replicate.

By growing nutrient-rich vegetables like moringa and spinach, we are helping households access healthy food while encouraging environmentally responsible farming practices.

Together, we are proving that sustainable agriculture can nourish families, strengthen resilience, and protect our environment.

Yesterday, the Centre for Water and Environment Development (CWED) was privileged to participate in and host a budget capacity-building session for members of NEWSAN Kaduna Chapter, facilitated by Mr. Olatunde Simeon.

The training strengthened participants' understanding of government budgeting processes, budget classifications and codes, and the use of a WASH Budget Tracking Dashboard for monitoring Kaduna State's WASH expenditure and implementation on a quarterly basis.

For CWED, this training represents more than knowledge sharing it is a step towards strengthening evidence-based advocacy, promoting transparency, and improving accountability in the WASH sector.

With improved skills in budget tracking and analysis, CWED is better positioned to lead and support evidence driven WASH advocacy that ensures public resources translate into improved water, sanitation, and hygiene services for communities across Kaduna State and beyond.

We appreciate NEWSAN Kaduna Chapter and the Beacon for the collaboration and shared commitment to accountable governance.

🌱 CWED Organic Farming Progress & Harvest Update 🌱

From planting to harvesting, every step reflects our commitment to sustainable agriculture, healthy communities, and environmental stewardship.

Today, we celebrate another milestone at the Centre for Water and Environment Development (CWED) Organic Demonstration Farm with the successful harvest of fresh moringa leaves, alongside healthy growth of papaya, pepper, and other nutritious crops.

Our farm demonstrates that organic farming can:
🌿 Improve soil health and biodiversity.
🌾 Produce safe, nutritious, chemical free food.
🌍 Promote climate-smart and environmentally friendly agriculture.
👩🏽‍🌾 Build community knowledge and resilience through practical learning.

Every harvest is a reminder that investing in sustainable agriculture today helps secure healthier families and a greener future tomorrow. Storytelling and regular farm updates like these are effective ways to engage communities around organic farming initiatives.

UNICEF, in collaboration with KADRUWASSA, successfully conducted a 2-day training for seamstresses on the production of reusable sanitary pads at Batra Hotel, Kaduna 24th–25th June, 2026.
Facilitated by experts from the Centre for Water and Environment Development, the training promoted menstrual health and hygiene management while creating opportunities for women-led entrepreneurship.
Together, we are empowering women, improving access to affordable menstrual products, and advancing dignity for girls and women in our communities.
